Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 95cm

Posted on Friday 3rd December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

Today is officially the first day of the ski season here, if you take that as being the day when the first ski lifts start up.

Niseko Village is the first to open with the Community Chair and Banzai Chair lifts planned to be operating today.

From tomorrow the other ski areas on the mountain all plan to be open. It looks like Hirafu will have their Ace Number 2 Center Four and Ace Number 3 pair lifts operating, with just the Center course available. Annupuri are planning on their gondola as well as the Jumbo Number 1 quad and Dream Number 1 quad lifts operating. With five courses open, there will be more terrain on offer than at Hirafu.

Thankfully today is much calmer than yesterday. In less exciting news, we have had to endure a bit more rain. Best to get it out of the system early on, right? Hopefully some snow tomorrow.

In the meantime, and at the risk of being predictable, I think it is time for some celebratory toast.
