The weather information function of my car's navigation system kept reminding me that a heavy snow advisory is up for the 18th - that is, today - but the heavy stuff hasn't hit yet. It is likely to pick up this evening, though; maybe we can get a few more lifts on a few more resorts going! Still pre-Christmas, so as I often tell people, things aren't unusual yet. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . It's a lovely morning too with some blue skies. With the regular snow we have been getting in recent days, everywhere is looking beautiful. Isn't snow amazing? And the snow is allowing much more of the ski area to open from today. Indeed, it is now officially 'regular season' (regular prices!). The clearer skies aren't due to continue for too long though and we should be back to snowfall tomorrow. Perhaps quite a lot of it too... The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Well, some snow fell through the day yesterday, but we still don't have a whole lot at the base level at Akakan. It's beautiful out there, don't get me wrong; the trees are covered in white (the snow was a little stickier than earlier falls, so it was good at frosting everything nicely), the sun is shining and the mountain looks like it's ready for skiers. Looks can, as they say, be deceiving. As I'm writing this, it's still not clear if the resorts that were hoping to open today (or those that were planning to open last week) are partially open or not. What you're seeing is the result of me having some breakfast and waiting to the last minute before getting this report to you... And this morning, more of the ski area is open. The Skyline connecting pair is going to be moving and so is the Yu Road (connecting the ski area with the village). Not much has been happening down at base yet, though, with just a dusting since yesterday. It's a bit foggy early on around base with a lot of low lying cloud, but that should clear and there should be some sun this morning. Already looks lovely up on the top runs.
