The shovel-the-deck test also revealed nice fluffiness—this is our real first powder snowfall of the season. Things seem to be running pretty OK on the hill; going into the woods this morning and on the slopes this afternoon, so I’ll share any knowledge gained. • Hakuba Now: Saturday 4th January 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 366cm Posted on Saturday 4th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Greetings from Hakuba. The good news continues this morning. Ski areas are reporting up to 25-30cm on upper areas, and I have measured 20cm myself since yesterday. Right now down at base it is quite bright in places with the sun trying to break through some clouds. Visibility is generally much more limited up at higher elevations, though varied across the region. We may get some sun tomorrow (forecasts seem to be predicting different things), but I'm seeing more good snowfall incoming from around Tuesday onwards. It doesn't look like the very pleasing snowfall patterns this season are about to change! (Just noticed: reluctant to spoil the vibes, but there might be some rain on Monday before the next big snow comes. Hopefully we can avoid that). -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 25cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 350cm Top: 125cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park New snowfall (reported as 'todays snowfall' by the ski area): Top: 25cm Base: 15cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 370cm Base: 170cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 325cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 20cm Usagidaira (1400m): 9cm Nakiyama (800m): 10cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 280cm Usagidaira (1400m): 235cm Nakiyama (800m): 130cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field New snowfall (reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 4cm Village Side: 5cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 195cm Village Side: 105cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 320cm ------------ Jigatake New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 190cm ------------ Kashimayari Skijo Family Park Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 200cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Upper: 282cm Base: 80cm ------------ White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 230cm Hakuba Now 2024-2025 season Data as Saturday 4th January 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 366cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 28 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 38cm (28th December) November 2024 snowfall 42cm reported on 3 days December 2024 snowfall 278cm reported on 21 days January 2025 snowfall 46cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Some more fresh snow on the ground this morning. The snow remains pretty wet; running the snowthrower or shoveling down to the driveway or deck means revealing a lot of water. That was what I found out snowshoeing yesterday in the woods; pretty solid, cohesive wet snow. It’s going to be safer than that deep layer of loose powder at the end of the year, ready to swallow up an inverted skier or boarder. As expected, lots more people were on the hill yesterday than on the morning of the 1st and there should be many happy sliders out again this morning. The sun has been trying to break through here, too, since the early morning. A few snowflakes continue to drift down, but it’s pretty much stopped for the moment.
