- Hakuba Now: Monday 13th January 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 438cm Posted on Monday 13th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Greetings from Hakuba on this last day of the long weekend. We have some fresh snow on the ground this morning. I have just measured 4cm. It is still snowing at higher elevations; less so around base, where the sun is trying to appear from behind the clouds. We aren't expect the snow to last during the day. The sun might win the day. The prospect of 'heavy snow' on Wednesday sounds good. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 4cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 360cm Top: 145cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park New snowfall (reported as 'todays snowfall' by the ski area): Top: 5cm Base: 3cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 370cm Base: 175cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 3cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 325cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 15cm Usagidaira (1400m): 5cm Nakiyama (800m): 0cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 355cm Usagidaira (1400m): 259cm Nakiyama (800m): 140cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field New snowfall (reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 5cm Village Side: 0cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 240cm Village Side: 130cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 330cm ------------ Jigatake New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 5cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 200cm ------------ Kashimayari Skijo Family Park Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 225cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort New snowfall (reported by the ski area): About 30cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Upper: 293cm Base: 109cm ------------ White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 235cm Hakuba Now 2024-2025 season Data as Monday 13th January 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 438cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 34 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 38cm (28th December) November 2024 snowfall 42cm reported on 3 days December 2024 snowfall 278cm reported on 21 days January 2025 snowfall 118cm reported on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Nice weather yesterday. We did get a bit of snow in the evening, but it didn't amount to much. It's a fine start to this Sunday morning with some thin cloud but blue sky and sunshine. Nice and bright. It may get more cloudy later on, but generally fine weather expected. Forecasts point to that happening from the middle of the week. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Cloud with light snowfall this morning. I'm a bit confused by of the official snowfall numbers from yesterday and this morning (a total of 77cm since yesterday morning on the top area?!), but that is not to say they are incorrect. Just surprised. And I was not able to get out on the mountain yesterday. Anyway, you can see those numbers below, the first number being daytime yesterday numbers and the second being overnight numbers). JMA recorded 18cm of snowfall over the last 24 hours and my own reading is 21cm. Anyway, taking off the nerd hat, we have fresh snow and conditions should be good and fun! That's the most important thing. We will probably get clearer skies and sun tomorrow from early on. Today is the first day of a 3-day weekend here in Japan and usually pretty busy for ski areas! No snow, then a heavy fall; looked like it was going to be sunny today then the clouds started to move in from the north. It’s not snowing at the moment, and the weather forecasts don’t predict snow...wait a minute, it is snowing now. Nice big flakes, in fact. Not much snow overnight in fact, not much wind down here but a quick scoping of the mountain shoes a lot of wind-affected slopes up high. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Greetings from Nozawa. Just slightly over 10cm of fresh to report this morning. I was expecting more, perhaps in part egged on by all the 'crazy snowfall' reports that were on the Japanese national news last night. It does seem like some regions have been well and truly dumped on. Just not so much here. It's snowing still and a cold morning. Limited visibility on the top area. Long weekend ahead, with Monday being a national holiday. The ski area will probably be very busy. Night skiing tomorrow (as usual) and also on Sunday night. Weather for the weekend? Well, should be generally calm with a mix of cloud, light snow and clearer sunny periods. Timing of those things... unknown! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 21cm Snowfall at base this season 655cm Posted on Friday 10th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The weather is weird right now; the national news is all about the massive snows all, over the place; meanwhile, we haven’t seen a huge fall, but lots of on and off snowing, a touch of wind, the sun is peeking out right now.... In fact, I was woken up at 5:30 by the city’s big rotary snowthrower; went to take a look and there was very little new snow. They never plowed yesterday, so I guess they were catching up (we suspect they don’t go until there’s 30cm or so on the ground, so maybe they were looking at the total?). Looked outside, and there wasn’t really enough to justify popping up and getting to work (back to bed!). Then it was coming down hard at 7, slowed down again, the wind shifted from east to now....west? north? No predictions on how much will fall by tomorrow. But it is colder, the snow is pretty nice and light and it's not crazy deep, at least at base level. There could be a lot more (and more wind) higher up.
