Snow clouds remain over the region and right now it is snowing lightly in areas, just cloudy in others, with a moderate wind as well which may well affect some of the higher lifts this morning. It has been a very cold morning. When Yakebitaiyama posted it's report at 9am, the temperature was -14C. It's more like a -8C here im the Maruike area at the moment. Still looking good for decent snowfall late weekend / early in the week. It is a lovely morning here in Shiga Kogen with the sun shining down on us and everywhere looking all snowy white and extremely skiable/snowboardable! Things are still very quiet at this stage of the season and while the open runs are still limited and we are far from being fully connected up yet, it should be a fine day out on the slopes today. It is a cold morning and will stay cold through tomorrow but come Friday and the weekend temperatures will probably rise somewhat - though still remain under 0 - and we will see more clearer skies. There's not much snow on the forecast into next week as it stands now. I would expect more runs and lifts to be open for the weekend though, will let you know any news on that nearer the time. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A bit of a later report today - I was down in town and saying hello to the 'snow monkeys' at Jigokudani. They were all huddled together in the hot spring and looking very relaxed as well. They must love it in winter when it's cold and they can just jump in there! Back to Shiga Kogen and this morning the winds are calmer and the snow has eased somewhat and we have a few more lifts running again. Even a bit of blue sky at times as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The snow really turned on yesterday afternoon and this morning we are still in the middle of a very decent snow storm. It is coming down in style at the moment. Information from around the resorts this morning is... patchy... but while I can't see any big changes, this snowfall will definitely be a big help moving forward. There are actually seemingly fewer lifts operating this morning, partly due to it being an early season weekday perhaps and also because of the weather conditions, but early on it seems to be like this: Sun Valley - 1 lift Mammoth - 1 lifts Ichinose Family - 1 lifts Ichinose Diamond - 1 lift Yakebitaiyama - 1 lifts Kumanoyu - 1 lifts Yokoteyama - 4 lifts Resorts around the area reporting up to 40cm of new snow this morning, and I was seeing at least 30cm on the tops of cars. Not a whole lot of snow to report since yesterday as it didn't amount to much in terms of cm, and any that did fall was moved about by the winds, and this morning is a cold and sunny start to the day. Once this coming weekend is over, and if the forecast is correct, we can expect more of the areas to be open next week. We are still expecting moderate to heavy snowfall and strong winds over the weekend. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . This morning there isn't much to see in Shiga Kogen with clouds covering the mountains, snow falling and some strong winds blowing things around as well. The conditions are affecting the resorts as well with Yokoteyama closed and only one lift moving at Kumanoyu rather than the multiple lifts that they have been running. It's not that cold actually but will probably get colder as the day progresses. We probably won't see too much snow fall today and tomorrow will likely see clearer skies but the weather forecasts for the coming weekend remain very promising. Expect the strong winds to stick around as well, so not that much of Shiga Kogen might be able to be operating through the storm. If we get the snow 'promised' though, next week should be good! And there has been 10cm or so of new snowfall in places as well. It feels like winter again with the cold temperatures. More areas open for the weekend, but we'll be back to less from tomorrow once again. It has actually kept fairly cold over the last week with a few dustings and temps not rising as much as they were last month for example. Fresh snow on the ground and a chill in the air... what more could we ask for late April? The forecast is advising warmer conditions in the coming week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Some 'wetness' yesterday... I can't bring myself to say the word... but a return to colder temps this morning and some snowfall as well, though it has stopped snowing now. Just a bit on the roads, enough to make them whiter than they were yesterday. I said the snow has stopped and actually there's a bit of sun out here in Maruike at the moment. Fast moving clouds mean it's out and then hidden again quickly. But as forecast, changeable conditions this morning. Some resort areas are reporting disruptions to lift operations. The wind should calm down for tomorrow and then this week we should see a run of clearer days but keeping fairly cold until the end of the week when a warm up again is likely. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The snow started up again, as did the winds, and this morning I have about 20-25cm of fresh snow to report from Shiga Kogen. It was a cold start to the morning. The snow fall has cleared up and in the last hour or so the sun has been making some appearances. Still lots of cloud around but perhaps it's going to clear up. What does look very likely is a clear day tomorrow and more of the same through the coming week. Might stay colder for a few more days but in the 2nd half of the week we can expect some very spring like warmth. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It is of course the last day of February and as they say here, spring from tomorrow. Not sure I agree with that, probably because I don't want spring to come and the fact that parts of Shiga Kogen open through until the end of May. That's another three months. But it does actually feel spring-like today. Warm and toasty out on the slopes with hardly any wind either. Blue skies up above. It's calm and quiet. Similar, maybe warmer still, forecast for tomorrow. Temperatures set to plummet though overnight into Saturday and snow along with windy conditions forecast for Saturday as of now. Rain is very likely lower down in the valley but we will probably escape such horrors. One of the advantages of being up high like we are here.
