  • Naeba Now: Saturday 16th February 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 618cm Weather overview Snow Wind Moderate to strong Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Saturday 16th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Snow bonanza! Kagura is proudly reporting 40-50cm of fresh white fluffy stuff this morning. Hurray! But as perhaps expected, the strong winds that we are experiencing this morning are affecting resort operations. Tashiro Ropeway is closed and Kagura is only open from the Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Number 1 Romance lift. Here in Naeba we have around 30cm of snow, and the top lifts and Gondolas here are also on hold due to wind. Booo! It can't be helped of course, and while there will certainly be disappointed people today, it just means that the goodies will be on offer to the people who turn up tomorrow. Tomorrow should be calmer and we might even get some sun if the clouds clear up soon enough. Don't worry about the official snow depths not changing much (or at all in the case of Kagura). The new snow is most definitely here, honest! Very cold too this morning, one of the coldest this season I reckon. • Naeba Now: Wednesday 6th February 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 511cm Weather overview Light snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility OK Posted on Wednesday 6th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Last night the forecast said we could perhaps expect up to 15cm of snow overnight and before 9am this morning. It's not 9am yet, but that's definitely a miss. We just got a slight sprinkling. Kagura resort reporting 1-2cm. Right now light snow falling, and a temperature of -3C. Moderate winds here and stronger up top preventing Tashiro area to open again today, and similarly Kagura restricted to the Kagura part up to the top lift. Naeba haven't published any intentions for the day yet and so hopefully the Gondola can be working and we get open as normal. I need to get up to Niigata today and so get this report off early. So hopefully snow during today, tomorrow might start off clear before more snow on Friday. Clearer Saturday and then more snow from Sunday. Changing day by day by the looks of things. ---- Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 260cm Kagura - 370cm The top lift at Kagura is now open (though might not be operating today due to wind). • Naeba Now: Sunday 3rd February 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 508cm Weather overview Light snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Good Posted on Sunday 3rd February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . I got rained on for a bit yesterday but the less I think about the better. We don't like the R word, it should not be part of what happens between December and April. Anyway, 3cm of snow outside on the lower slopes this morning in Naeba. Kagura say up to 10cm. Seems like wind means both the Gondolas here in Naeba are on hold at the moment, but the Prince Number 2 gondola is scheduled to start it's day at 10:20am. (Exactly!) Doesn't feel windy here at base but stronger winds high up apparently. Today if you finish up at Tashiro and are one of the first xxx people, you might be lucky enough to get some free 'tonjiru' soup. What more could you want!? Starts at 2pm at Tashiro base, so that's quite early for those of us wanting a full day out in the snow. Limited supplies. So some difficult decisions required. Snow or soup? Tomorrow will be a bit warmer again, but back to cold and hopefully continued cold from Tuesday. ---- Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 260cm Kagura - 370cm The top lift at Kagura is now open! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . There's 5-10cm of new snow at Kagura and 5cm or so here in Naeba this morning since yesterday, and those clouds have moved on and made way for the sun which is out up above us shining down. Tomorrow and Wednesday may be similar with clear skies forecast. Next snow? Look to Wednesday or Thursday. All resort areas open and the only news really is that Naeba plans to get the Splash Bowl run open for 'limited time' today. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 50cm Snowfall at base this season 282cm Weather overview Cloud, snow Wind Varied Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Friday 4th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. 60-80cm is what Kagura are reporting this morning. That's new snowfall since yesterday, not the snow depth! Here in Naeba, it's 40cm-60cm. I'd say there was a good half metre where I was this morning. Took a bit of effort to get the door open. The current weather conditions are affecting the lifts a bit though - the Dragondola connecting Naeba with Tashiro is closed, and at Mitsumata just from the Ropeway to Kagura Number 1 pair lift is open. You know what that means? We get some more snow today and tomorrow is just going to be heaven out there. The sun might well be out tomorrow as well. I know I'd be lining at the front of the queue for the first lift... if I didn't have to post another report to tell you about it tomorrow morning. Oh yes. (Ignore the official snow depth just increasing by 0cm at Kagura and 10cm at Naeba... that's just silly!) Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 150cm Kagura - 270cm All runs at Naeba open apart from Splash Bowl. Top area may be closed at times. Daishamen lift closed today. Some lifts opening late as the resorts cope with snow The Dragondola is closed today due to conditions. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 221cm Weather overview Cloud Wind Varied Temperature - Visibility Fair Posted on Saturday 29th December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . 10cm of new snow at Kagura this morning and about 5cm here in Naeba. The forecast was for a clearer start but we have a cloudier and foggy start to the day but nothing is falling from the skies. The clouds might clear though and we might get to see the sun. As we expected, quite a mild morning and tomorrow should be more so. Still looking like rain might fall but it will turn into snow and then hopefully snow through well into the week. Even if it does rain lower on the slopes, Kagura will probably escape. If you are interested in the chance of winning a few lift tickets that are valid at any ski resort in Yuzawa town, may I point you in the direction of this weeks Giveaway on SnowJapan for this season. Yuzawa Town have very kindly provided us with 20 one-day lift tickets, valid until the end of March 2013, to distribute to SnowJapan members. The tickets are valid at any of the ski resorts in Yuzawa town - including Naeba and Kagura. More details on how you can win two of these can be found here and hopefully it's a good opportunity to get involved in our Forums. This Giveaway will be running until Thursday next week, and after that each week we have lift tickets for other ski resorts around Japan to give to SnowJapan members. Good luck! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . After that lovely day out there yesterday, and indeed some fine conditions to be enjoyed, this morning is a more cloudy start. No new snowfall of course and not quite as cold with the day forecast to simply be 'cloudy' and just a slight breeze. Mild conditions over the weekend forecast, chance of rain on Sunday lower down before it turns to snow and then snowing into the New Year. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . As I munch on my Christmas cake and fried chicken - it is today we are supposed to eat it, isn't it? - I see snow, and lots of it. Yes, we have signed off on the delivery of fresh snowfall and while it's perhaps 15cm here in Naeba (10-20cm according to the resort), Kagura are reporting a load of 50cm of new snowfall on the upper slopes up there. It's going to be a deep Christmas by the sounds of things there at least. Colder too. -7C here at base, -12C at the top of Naeba early on this morning. It is still snowing as I said but not much of a wind so relatively calm. It sounds like there might be more of a wind at Kagura. Snow is forecast for the day and so it would be great if it continued and we could add to the haul. Once the Christmas trees come down tonight (that's what happens here), tomorrow we might start off with some sun but hopefully a return to more snow by the end of the day. Ho ho ho!
