The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Resort reporting 5-10cm of fresh snow on the slopes of the mountain this morning, just a few cm where I am here. Lots of cloud around this morning (fog too over the upper mountain areas?) and it's a cold start to the day. Kind of not what we were told to expect for this morning as per report yesterday, but there you go. Maybe we are going to see those clearer sunny conditions later on today. It should be getting warmer too, today and tomorrow, before dipping again around Wednesday along with fresh snow clouds moving in around that time. Not as many people around now as we return to normal after the new year. Next weekend is a long weekend though with Monday as a holiday - and another peak of the season. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Trying to avoid obviously hype-like adjectives but really what more could we want than yet another 40+cm of snowfall. The resort this morning is clocking in another 40-50cm and once again yes that's pretty much how much I need to be clearing off once again this morning. Not complaining! It's keeping suitably cold. What more can I say. Top conditions for those lucky enough to be here. Lots of cloud but even a small break in them just before with some sun - clouded over again now. The forecast though is for clearing rather than continued snow and I think we'll get more sun than snow over the next few days and it shouldn't be as cold either. Quite busy as you might expect, though I would guess that tomorrow will be less so with people heading back to reality after their new year hols. Tonight is the last nighta of the New Year holidays... after today it's Saturdays until 21st March as well as 11th January. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Ho Ho Ho! Oh, sorry wrong holiday.... Merry New Year! And yes it's surely a merry one. Even those nursing some heavy heads this morning will look out of the window and love the sight of all the fresh snow that has fallen since last night. Sadly the resort had to cancel some of the events it had planned last night including the fireworks due to the weather conditions. Wind, almost no visibility and heavy snow aren't the best conditions for a firework display! That aside, it's obviously great that we have started the year with this snowfall. It's cold out there this morning so an extra layer or two needed compared with the last few days. Get wrapped up though and it should be deep conditions on the slopes. That's what we like. Last report I said it was a snowy Madarao Kogen. Well, it's a much snowier Madarao this morning, the resort posting a photo of outside the base center and reporting 70cm of snow, over half of that since yesterday afternoon. Oh yes, things are progressing well. This will form a good base which hopefully will stick around and be built on gradually in the run up to opening a week on Friday. Forecast for the coming week is less snowy. Maybe sunny even. The next cold and snowy front is due next weekend. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Tons of snow in Madarao over the last day or so. Just loads. I hesitate to put a number on it, but for the record I will. What's absolutely certain now, with the snow that's due mid week as well, is that Madarao will be getting off to a flying start on Friday. What makes it even better is the decent chance of clear and sunny conditions on Friday. Keep cold and 20cm the night before please. Very exciting times. It was over 7 months ago when I posted the last report from last season and here we are with 2014-2015 just around the corner. It has definitely been a mixed bag of weather over the green season, but it's the white season that we're most interested here I'm sure! Madarao Kogen plans to open from Friday 19th December for the 2014-2015 season. By then there will surely be enough snow and everyone will be well up for it... here's to a bumper season. More reports coming in the weeks leading up to the resort opening with news on the new ungroomed course called 'Ninja' that will be added this season. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . As you may have heard, on Saturday night there was a strong earthquake in northern Nagano Prefecture, with areas to the west of where we are - Hakuba in particular - being shaken the most. It was a shindo 4 on the Japanese scale here in Madarao. More than a tremor but nothing that caused any damage at all to the facilities here in Madarao Kogen. Everything has been checked and there's thankfully no damage to report. All remains on course of Madarao Kogen opening 19th December. Not particularly winter like weather of late. The weekend saw some beautiful conditions, to be followed with rain yesterday and today as well. Not much snow around. We all know how quickly it can arrive when it gets going... but not yet. Hopefully more winter-like weather patterns will return next week. And I'll be sure to give you an update! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Well, there is it folks, that was it. The lifts at Madarao Kogen have now stopped for the season. There's still a lot of snow out there and good cover which is a shame but there's no going back now... it'll be December before the resort opens again officially for skiing and snowboarding. It has been a decent season I think. Not as consistent heavy snowfall as last season, but then again that one was probably not the norm. Still, lots of snow and some fine conditions to be had. Spring seemed to arrive sooner than we hoped, as it did in many other regions of Japan as well. Madarao is of course a very pleasant place to visit outside of the snow season. Nice and relatively cool up here in summer when everyone else is sweating it out lower down in the valleys and of course some spectacular scenery on clear days. Thank you for reading the reports. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning and welcome back to the Madarao Now reports for the 2013/2014 season. We are still a few weeks off opening with a planned opening date for the resort of Saturday 14th December. We have had a few 'snow events' but a fair few 'rain events' too! Right now there is some snow remaining on the upper slopes of Madarao but it's mostly melted away from lower areas and base. There's a chance of fresh snow later on tomorrow into Thursday. Two new ungroomed powder courses make their debut at Madarao this season as the resort seems to do all it can to keep powderhounds happy out there. We'll have more news and a weather update a bit nearer to opening.
