The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good news this morning! Yesterday it was snowing on and off during the day - clearer skies in places at times. The snow was a bit wet really down in town, but overnight we have more fresh snow on the ground around town. I am measuring 24cm. And here is what the ski resorts are reporting: Kagura: 20cm Kagura Mitsumata: 30cm Kagura Tashiro: 30cm Naeba: 20-30cm Maiko Snow Resort: 30cm So we can expect around 20-30cm of fresh snow out there on the slopes around town this morning. Light snow is falling at the moment, and it is expected to get heavier later on with a decent amount of snow due to fall overnight and through tomorrow; possibly with strong winds too. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 43cm Snowfall at base this season 358cm Posted on Wednesday 3rd January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. We have a lot of fresh snowfall to report to you this morning. Trying to get this out as early as possible, but there is a lot of information to gather and put together. Fresh snowfall numbers from the ski resorts themselves: Naeba: 30-50cm Maiko: 40cm Kagura areas: 60cm I am measuring 43cm, though I need to add that strong winds are blowing it around so there are snowdrifts and there'll be more/less in different places. I think that number is representative of about how much has fallen though. Unfortunately because of the strong winds this morning, GALA Yuzawa is closed today. The Kagura Area and Tashiro Area of the Kagura resort will also be closed - so it's just the Mitsumata area open there. The Gondola and top lifts at Maiko Snow Resort are also on hold at the start of the day. Other lifts at other resorts in the region may also be affected. So it's a bit wild out there. Check out the Yuzawa IC image below! If you are going to brave the conditions, go out prepared and take care. The heavy snow we are due to continue getting through today and into tomorrow though is most welcome. Once the storm passes conditions should be really great. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - GALA Yuzawa is closed today due to strong winds - 210cm Iwappara - 180cm Kagura - Only the Mitsumata Area open today due to strong winds - The top Kagura Number 5 lift is now open for the season - Kagura area: 300cm - Mitsumata area: 200cm - Tashiro area: 250cm Kandatsu Kogen - 200cm Naeba - 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden - 205cm Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 200cm - Base: 150cm Yuzawa Park - 160cm Yuzawa Nakazato - 145cm --- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma (just to the north of Yuzawa): Ishiuchi Maruyama - 160cm (not updated today) Joetsu Kokusai - 160cm Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 230cm - Base: 140cm Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Closed on Wednesdays between 10th Jan and 14th Mar - 220cm Yuzawa Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Wednesday 3rd January 2018 Total snowfall at base so far 358cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 21 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th and 27th December) November 2017 snowfall 14cm reported on 3 days December 2017 snowfall 277cm reported on 16 days January 2018 snowfall 67cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Snowfall for most of the day yesterday, apart from a period of clearer skies and a bit of sunshine. But fresh snow on the ground. I am measuring 12cm of since my report yesterday and here is what I am finding from around the resorts: Kagura (Main): 20cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 5cm Kagura (Tashiro): 20cm Maiko Snow Resort: 10cm This morning the snow has stopped and we are starting the day with cloud cover. Nearby regions are enjoying some clearer skies, so perhaps we will get some of that later on in the day. The snow might be back tomorrow though the forecasts don't tell us to expect too much. Temperatures are due to get a little higher on Monday and right now there's rain on the forecast. Not good, let's hope that doesn't happen. Before then though, we have got lots of fresh snowfall over the last few days and it should be very nice conditions out there for the upcoming weekend. Hope you can be here to enjoy it. It is still snowing now with some nice big flakes falling from the sky and currently just under 0C. • Yuzawa Now: Monday 8th January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 417cm Posted on Monday 8th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There's no new snow on the ground this morning, though it did continue snowing past my report yesterday morning so that is where the 1cm is coming from in the report today. We start the day today with cloudy skies. I need to post my report early today, which unfortunately means that much of the ski resort information below has not been updated (as it is not yet available!) The main news I can find at this early hour is that GALA Yuzawa will not be open today - apparently due to windy conditions due today. Kagura appears to be planning on opening as normal, as are other resorts. It is going to be a (very) mild day today but perhaps we can survive without getting rained on until late tonight or early tomorrow morning. But rain seems inevitable and possibly heavy rain at times too along with a borderline 'warm' night tonight. Temperatures are going to gradually increase during the day into tonight with up to +10C temps due tonight on some local forecasts! Hopefully we'll be getting back down to more winter-like conditions and snow from Wednesday. I will of course update you tomorrow morning with the latest. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 270cm Iwappara - 185cm Kagura - Kagura area: 320cm - Mitsumata area: 220cm - Tashiro area: 270cm Kandatsu Kogen - 220cm Naeba - 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden - 240cm Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 230cm - Base: 170cm Yuzawa Park - 190cm Yuzawa Nakazato - 165cm --- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma (just to the north of Yuzawa): Ishiuchi Maruyama - 240cm Joetsu Kokusai - 200cm Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 260cm - Base: 170cm Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Closed on Wednesdays between 10th January and 14th March (!) - 240cm Yuzawa Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Monday 8th January 2018 Total snowfall at base so far 417cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 25 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th and 27th December) November 2017 snowfall 14cm reported on 3 days December 2017 snowfall 277cm reported on 16 days January 2018 snowfall 126cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 421cm Posted on Thursday 11th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. UPDATE AT 9:15am I feel I should update the report - the snowfall I reported at the time of the original report eased up and right now clouds are clearing and the sun is breaking through! --- ORIGINAL REPORT Good morning from Yuzawa. The weather is acting... a little odd in our region just at the moment. As I mentioned yesterday the snow clouds appear to be moving across Niigata Prefecture to the north of us - and giving our region something of a miss in the process. Yesterday was a windy and snow-free day here, and even after hearing that it was snowing fairly close by in Tokamachi when I made my way over there yesterday afternoon, I was still a bit surprised to see a decent amount of fresh snow on the ground over there. There was still none over here when I got back. And it was really strange hearing about snow down in Kyushu and western Japan - areas that usually hardly get any. There is actually is a bit of fresh snow on the ground here this morning... 4cm on the roads around town to add to the report. (Just outside of Yuzawa in neighbouring Minamiuonuma remains dry). Higher resorts are also reporting fresh. Kagura are reporting between 10-15cm of fresh snowfall; Naeba and Maiko Snow Resort are both reporting 5cm. So it would seem that today is definitely a day when 'go high' is the best advice for better snow conditions. Lower areas could still do with a good refresh. Actually, higher areas could also do with it. I'm not going to try and say what we'll get served up today. We are hoping snow on and off during the day and that is what local forecasts say; but they said that yesterday! Early on it has been generally cloudy - and as I am about to post the report this morning there is good news: I am happy to report snow has started falling in higher areas. Let's hope it continues. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 220cm Iwappara - 150cm Kagura - Kagura area: 320cm - Mitsumata area: 220cm - Tashiro area: 270cm Kandatsu Kogen - 180cm Naeba - 210cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden - 160cm Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 220cm - Base: 160cm Yuzawa Park - 150cm Yuzawa Nakazato - 150cm --- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma (just to the north of Yuzawa): Ishiuchi Maruyama - 180cm Joetsu Kokusai - 200cm Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 230cm - Base: 130cm Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Closed on Wednesdays between 10th January and 14th March (!) - 240cm Yuzawa Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Thursday 11th January 2018 Total snowfall at base so far 421cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 26 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th and 27th December) November 2017 snowfall 14cm reported on 3 days December 2017 snowfall 277cm reported on 16 days January 2018 snowfall 130cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. I have good news this morning. After a beautiful morning with clear blue skies, clouds gradually moved in later on in the day and it was snowing by evening. And this morning I have 23cm of fresh snow on the ground to report. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 445cm Posted on Monday 15th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. Very early report this morning! The clouds generally remained over Yuzawa for most of the day yesterday – perhaps longer than we thought would be the case - with some very light snow falling at times, even into the afternoon. (The 1cm of fresh in the report is from early on after my report when it was still snowing). If was far from the kind of snow where new cm would have built up though; certainly not down in town areas. By late afternoon though the sun was out and it was mostly clear skies. Early this morning there are some clouds around but it is forecast to be a very fine day so if the forecasts are right those clouds should be clearing up. This week there looks like a chance of rain around Wednesday, and maybe even at higher elevations too as the freezing point rises to 2000m and we have a bit of a mild spell. As always, we of course hope that any rain is short-lived and we can get back to winter and snowfall once again. Let’s keep an eye on that forecast. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 445cm Posted on Friday 19th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning. Yesterday ended up being another generally mild day with the sun finding a way through the clouds and a few spots of rain in the evening. The local news said that temperatures rose to above 8C in the day - that's more like early March than mid January. And so, it's Friday again... already. Too fast! Of course, this week hasn't been a good one in terms of snow and conditions but we can now positively look forward to some much better snow news in the first part of next week. Yes, the forecasts are looking much better at the moment. And this time, instead of snowing in the plains and cities to the north it should be snowing right here over the mountains. Apparently it might be the strongest winter front of the season. Nice. Loads of snow please. Until then, we are expecting some clearer skies and maybe some sun here later today. It is definitely colder this morning. Early on it is cloudy and the roads are wet - GALA Yuzawa, Yuzawa Kogen and Maiko are reporting light snowfall; and it looks like there is a bit of fresh snow on the road up by Mikuni/Tashiro Ropeway. The clouds will probably clear up though during the day today with that chance of clearer skies later on. Sunshine is expected tomorrow morning. And perhaps a little snow on Sunday. And then... some proper decent snowfall from around Tuesday! Let's hope we get some major snow action. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 210cm Iwappara - 135cm Kagura - Kagura area: 310cm - Mitsumata area: 210cm - Tashiro area: 260cm Kandatsu Kogen - 185cm Naeba - 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden - 155cm Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 190cm - Base: 130cm Yuzawa Park - 120cm Yuzawa Nakazato - 130cm --- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma (just to the north of Yuzawa): Ishiuchi Maruyama - 160cm Joetsu Kokusai - 170cm Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 180cm - Base: 80cm Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Closed on Wednesdays until 14th March - 250cm Yuzawa Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Friday 19th January 2018 Total snowfall at base so far 445cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 28 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th and 27th December) November 2017 snowfall 14cm reported on 3 days December 2017 snowfall 277cm reported on 16 days January 2018 snowfall 154cm reported on 9 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 450cm Posted on Monday 22nd January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. After a lovely morning again yesterday, things started to cloud over in the afternoon and then some rain that turned into snow. A bit of a wind as well. I am glad to be able to report almost 5cm of fresh snow on the ground. Not a huge amount - but we have large numbers to look forward to this week because the forecasts are still all pointing to some prolonged heavy snowfall into the weekend. The exciting full-on snowfall is due to start from later in the day tomorrow. Exciting stuff. Oh, by the way Kagura are reporting 10-20cm of fresh snowfall and Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 5-10cm. In the meantime it is just cloudy at the moment this morning with the chance of some more snow falling later on. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 210cm Iwappara - 140cm Kagura - Kagura area: 310cm - Mitsumata area: 210cm - Tashiro area: 260cm Kandatsu Kogen - 180cm Naeba - 210cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden - 145cm Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 170cm - Base: 120cm Yuzawa Park - 110cm Yuzawa Nakazato - 120cm --- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma (just to the north of Yuzawa): Ishiuchi Maruyama - 160cm Joetsu Kokusai - 170cm Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 175cm - Base: 85cm Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Closed on Wednesdays until 14th March - 250cm Yuzawa Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Monday 22nd January 2018 Total snowfall at base so far 450cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 29 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th and 27th December) November 2017 snowfall 14cm reported on 3 days December 2017 snowfall 277cm reported on 16 days January 2018 snowfall 159cm reported on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 23rd January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 11cm Snowfall at base this season 461cm Posted on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Another 11cm of fresh snowfall to add to the report this morning. Kagura are reporting 10cm and Maiko are reporting 15cm. So, not a huge amount by our standards, but yesterday and this morning was not scheduled to be the peak of the oncoming storm for our region. Tokyo and the Kanto region took the headlines yesterday with 'heavy snow' - for them, anyway - falling and causing all sorts of problems. Taihen desu ne. This morning, and perhaps rather unexpectedly, it's sunny and fine here in Yuzawa. Blue skies. Huh!? First tracks should be a nice this morning with that layer of fresh. But of course we want that heavy snow that we have been promised. It doesn't look like we should be worried though - it is due soon and the 'main event' should be starting from later on today with that forecast heavy snow still due over the next few days. Fingers crossed the forecasts have it right this time.
