Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 5cm Posted on Monday 20th November 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Hello and welcome back to Naeba Now. Here were are in the second half of November, and after a somewhat wet summer period things have got colder quite quickly this year, and I must say things are looking and feeling rather good for the run up to the coming snow season. Are we in for a bumper season? We shall see. 5cm of first snow to get us going. Naeba itself this season plans to open from Saturday 9th December, so we are just over three weeks away from that opening. Before then, Kagura is planning on starting the season next Thursday, 23rd November. Just one week away! Some seasons they only can manage to open a small part of the upper part with complicated bus services taking folk up there, while others things get off to a good start right from the beginning. This season we have already seen snowfall up on the mountains and all areas of Kagura are looking covered in white as I write this. And it's actually snowing lightly down to base of Naeba early this morning... it's not sticking just yet, but there's a thin dusting of snow on the ski runs down to base. The forecast is good too, with snow planned even down to Yuzawa town level Saturday into Sunday. Here's to a very snowy season. Official planned opening dates Thursday 23rd November 2017 Kagura, via the Mitsumata Ropeway. I truly believe that there is no way that someone can fully appreciate the sheer volume of snow that we have experienced this last week without actually being here. With another 30 cm of snow accumulation over night we have yet another perfect powder day. We are expecting a short break in the weather with potentially even some sun tomorrow. This will make a nice change before once again a storm rolls in on Friday and pummels us again! Be safe out there kids. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 55cm Snowfall at base this season 358cm Posted on Saturday 14th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . There is snow everywhere! As of 6AM this morning we had 20cm of fresh snow on the ground and this has built up to over 55cm as of 10AM! That is a severe amount of snow an it has no signs of abating just yet! Conditions are super powdery and I predict that it should be possible to find good powder on the mountain most if not all of the day. Caution is advised as it is absolutely storming out there. It will be pretty hard to see where you are going most of the time. Right now the weather forecast is predicting heavy snow until Tuesday at which point we should get a brief respite before more snow again on Thursday. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 19cm Snowfall at base this season 102cm Posted on Saturday 24th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good news everybody! As of around 1300 yesterday we have received almost non stop snow. Over night this has built up to a total of 19cm. Conditions are fairly fierce out there with fairly strong wind and low visibility due to fog. Caution is definitely advised today as although we have a fair amount of snow on the ground we don't really have all that much base in certain places. The areas which do have a good amount of base are all clearly marked with poles. Looking at the weather forecast things generally look pretty good. Some rain is predicted on Monday but this should turn to snow by Tuesday so shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Today's lift operations are once again slightly limited.
