Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 170cm Posted on Wednesday 7th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Yesterday and overnight there has been around 15cm of new snow at village level. This time the snow is wet and heavy and is evidence that we narrowly missed a rain event. Normally this heavy snow would not be anything to celebrate but it is excellent for base building and is exactly what we required to cover some of the thinner patches that have been lurking around, particularly on Kitanomine. It is clear today with mainly high cloud at the moment, but conditions are forecast to change with 20cm of snow predicted for today and the snow expected to continue through until Monday. Winds will increase during the day to moderate. With all the new snow and winds only light right now, it looks like early morning will be the best time to get some turns in. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The snow continues to fall and the good news continues to roll in. Overnight there has been 20cm of new snow in the village and significantly more at the top of the resort. This was a surprise as the precipitation numbers on the forecast yesterday were small. The new snow means the resort has been able to open parts of Kitanomine today. From today the Kitanomine quad chair and Kitanomine Romance 2 double chair will be operating, as well as the link lift over to the Furano Zone. If you are planning to return to the Furano Zone from the Kitanomine side, be sure to note the closing time of the link lift. Kitanomine Gondola is still not operating. The Kitanomine courses that will be open today are the Link Course and Rinkan Course going via Furano Prince Hotel to the bottom of the Kitanomine quad chair. It is currently cloudy and there is a light trickle of snow falling which looks to continue through the day. Visibility is generally good but there are some patches of low light out there.
