Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido
New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 47cm
Posted on Friday 27th November 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.
Gluggy, sleety, wet, cold and overcast today.
It's a gluggy day. Gluggy snow has been falling (intermittent with a bit of dry snow and a bit of actual rain) since at least 6am, when our observations began.
The ONLY reason this is not entirely miserable, is that Furano's resort actually needs a wet snow base to hold on to the dry snow of the season. Without a wet base it quite simply blows off, down the hill, across the river, and into Furano town when an alpine gust gets blowy mid season.
But that silver lining doesn't make it any nicer to walk through the slush right now. Ankle deep in places.
The immediate future has cause for lightening up, as it is forecast to get cold again tonight (was a balmy 1C when I woke up today), and fresh snow is forecast for the morning.
But you know, it's the weather. So as ever, we shall see.
Bursts of breeze but basically still today.
It's a very grey day.
Tomorrow is the day... partial opening to start as scheduled.
