There were more clouds around very early on but they have mostly gone leaving us with some sun and a real feel-good morning. I can't find any snow numbers to report this morning, but there was definitely snow since my report yesterday when it was really coming down (even though it did ease off later). The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday we had a break and some nice weather actually but this morning we're back to pretty wild conditions again. Moderate to heavy snow, poor visibility and a bit of wind too. Kumanoyu reporting 15cm and Yakebitaiyama are reporting 20cm of fresh snowfall. That's all since very early morning. The way it's falling there's definitely going to be more to report tomorrow. (As well as a likely sunny start to the weekend). Like I said a bit wild so there might be some ski lifts on hold and special care definitely needed this morning. Things should be calmer by later this afternoon. It's going to be a fine day, especially with all this quality snow to enjoy. We might get some more snow overnight tonight but generally we're heading into a run of a few days of calm and maybe some sunshine. Should be remaining cold too, which is key to keeping us happy when the sun is out. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. It's still snowing! And the winds are still blowing. Not quite as much as they were, but it's still a bit wild outside. Both Yakebitaiyama and Kumanoyu are reporting 40cm of fresh snow. I have measured more than that and there's way more than that in places where wind has been playing about with it. Basically: a lot. The conditions mean that some lifts are struggling to open, but hopefully things will calm down later this morning. Tomorrow will be calmer and might even be bright and clear. Needless to say, snow conditions should be excellent. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Blizzard out there as I write this. Can't see much of anything at all. It's snowing quite handily at the moment and it's windy - we can expect some lift disruption this morning. One of those days when the wind is blowing the snow around but after a look around my usual measuring spot(s), I think 15cm is representative. Kumanoyu are reporting 20cm of new snowfall and Yakebitaiyama are reporting 15cm. Snowfall should ease off by tomorrow morning, but hopefully we'll get another good fresh layer before then. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning. About 10cm of snow overnight and light snow now falling, though I think it should be a case of on/off for the day today. There might even be some clearer skies and there are actually some hints of that in places even now at 8am. Tomorrow is much more of a lock in for heavier snow if the forecasts are correct. It's still New Year holidays for many here though today is the day when people start doing the 'U-turn' back home. It has felt almost normal this year. People are wearing masks, but there's more of them. (Let us hope those pesky numbers keep in check and we can keep on going like this.......) The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. It's been mad this last day or so. I am hearing of over 1m of snowfall in places. Wind is blowing it around and so there are going to be places of more and places where there is less. Kumanoyu seem to be the only ski area brave enough to report how much snow has fallen, saying 50cm. Yakebitaiyama are being more coy... just 'heavy snow'. Remember not everyone are heavy snowfall nerds like us, and eye-popping numbers can scare some people away! Must get out there to deal with this snow. When this storm passes, tomorrow?, conditions should be top level. About 50cm I just measured and there's more in some places. Kumanoyu and Yakebitaiyama both reporting 40cm. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Quick update because there's snow to report! It's not just the stuff blasted from machines, but actual real natural snow. Areas are speckled but there's a few cm in places. Yokoteyama remains part open with the Number 4 pair lift operating. Kumanoyu is aiming for an opening on Friday.
