The wind might well affect lifts this morning and indeed it looks like the Number 2 gondola at Yakebitaiyama has given up for the day. It's unclear how much snowfall we should expect today but it should have eased off by tomorrow morning. The coming weekend is one of the most popular of the ski season and so expect some of the busiest conditions. Forecasts seem to indicate clearer skies at times and it should be relatively calm. After some relatively warm weather, the colder conditions and new layer of snow is most welcome and will bring back some of that Shiga Kogen softness we love. Forecasts predict incoming snow through Friday, more or less at times with a chance of some clearer spells. But it will almost certainly be keeping colder. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Clearer skies and mild conditions in the afternoon yesterday. It made for a pleasant time out on the mountains. (Many people were probably not bothered by it, but it was a bit warmer than we would like). It is still not particularly cold (relatively) but light snow is falling this morning. Colder conditions over the next few days, with hopefully some fresh topups too. Sunday and Monday are currently forecast to have a good chance of clearer skies and sunshine. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Early morning cloud has cleared up quite a lot giving us some blue skies and sunshine now. It feels a little colder and it is a lovely morning to be out on the slopes. We expect more snow before tomorrow; though probably only a modest amount if it happens. If forecasts are to be believed, we can expect some light snow maybe before tomorrow but there is a fair chance of clearer skies and sun through Sunday, with more snow incoming by Tuesday. Light to moderate, depending on where you are. And brighter in some spots too. So some varied weather conditions on this first day of the year. Early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 15cm. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . First up, Yakebitaiyama reporting 30cm early this morning, they must have got a lot more than the rest of us over there. Feels like weather is changing quickly this morning. We have had some spells of blue sky and sunshine. Now we have a mix of cloud and clearer skies in places, though it feels like the cloud is going to win out with more snow due today. A bit windy too. Excellent snow conditions to enjoy right now. The official live status map this morning shows all ski areas open, with just a few showing as 'part open' (Terakoya, Nishidateyama, Sun Valley and a few runs over at Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama). For the most part, though, most of the area is now open and connected. Sunny skies expected tomorrow morning. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. It's snowing; lightly to more moderate, depending on where you might be in our wide area. Some nearby regions have enjoyed some heavy snowfall since yesterday; not so much here. Very early morning, Yakebitaiyama reported 4cm of fresh. I am looking at the official live status and as of 9am it does not look like Terakoya is open, along with a few other areas. So I cannot proclaim 'fully open' just yet. But we are definitely 'mostly open'. The official site is promoting a 'Monkey Show' at the end of January. I'm not sure how I feel about that, and admittedly do not know many details. I just hope that all the participating monkeys were consulted and keen to participate.
