I think it is worth mentioning that yesterday morning Okushiga Kogen (ski area) was reporting up to 50cm of snow in some wind-blown places. There was a lot of fresh out there.
Lots of cloud around still this morning, but there is also some blue sky and the sun is breaking through at times too.
Even if it gets sunny, though, it should remain cold.
A generally calm weekend is expected and we should be back to snow from around Tuesday onwards. The coming week is looking promising in terms of potential snow.
