  • Nozawa Now: Wednesday 2nd January 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 217cm Posted on Wednesday 2nd January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . A really nice morning yesterday. It seemed to take a while for people to appear - I wonder why?! - but the weather and conditions were probably enough to convince even those with a hangover to strap on the skis or board. Clouds started appearing again later in the day and by evening it was snowing again and this morning Nozawa are reporting up to 25cm of fresh snow on the upper slopes and a good 10-15cm on lower areas. Which is a nice surprise. Light snow still falling this morning and the snow clouds should be with us today and tomorrow. Perhaps just light snow, rather than what we got last week. If you are wanting to be here for some sunshine, perhaps timing your visit for Friday is a good bet. And some people will be back at work by then too... Special nighta until 8:00pm tonight at Nagasaka. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 207cm Posted on Tuesday 1st January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Happy New Year! There's some low cloud over the village early on but clearer skies up above with the sun shining down on the mountain. It's going to be a lovely morning and early birds are going to enjoy it out there. Snow clouds are due back later in the day though so unclear as to how long the sun will last. Since yesterday afternoon the resort is reporting 2-5cm of snowfall, and there was a bit more than that before 3pm - though I wasn't able to catch those numbers. Not major. With all the snow over the last few days, like I said, it should be an excellent start to the new year and the forecast shows regular snow over the coming week as well. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 98cm Posted on Tuesday 25th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. And Happy Christmas! I spotted Santa on some skis yesterday talking with our favourite skiing vegetable Nozawa mascot, Nasuki. Good to see them getting along. The resort is reporting 3-5cm of fresh snowfall overnight on the mountain, in addition to the 5-13cm of snow that they reported during the daytime yesterday. I'm measuring just a bit since my report yesterday. It is always good to report numbers, but these are not big numbers. But we are probably not going to have to wait much longer to enjoy some much bigger numbers and the bigsnow fun should be starting from tomorrow night. Don't worry if it is a bit wet at first, the last part of the week and the weekend is set to be very snowy indeed. Excellent. For the moment the sun is out and it's a fine (and cold) Christmas morning. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning. I'm going to try and avoid the feeling that I woke up very early morning to hear rain, but am happier to be able to report at least some fresh snow this morning. The resort is reporting 12-15cm of fresh snow on the upper areas and up to 5cm on lower base areas. Top tip - head to the top! I'm trying not to get too excited about that heavy snowfall that is sitting there pretty on the forecast. Incoming from Thursday. • Nozawa Now: Friday 26th January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 26cm Snowfall at base this season 483cm Posted on Friday 26th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa. By 3pm yesterday the resort was reporting 10-18cm of fresh snowfall across the mountain and this morning and extra 10-20cm, so that makes a total of 20-38cm since my last report. I have measured 26cm of snowfall myself. Really great quality snow too with temperatures keeping very low through the last few days. It's really cold. And it isn't going to warm up any during the day today - or tomorrow - either if the forecasts are correct. More cold, more snow. The mountain is getting a totally major refresh. Yesterday the top Yamabiko A-E courses were closed from quite early on due to fog and poor visibility. Similar conditions seem to be the case this morning if the webcams are anything to go by - though no news from the resort on that so far. If you decide to battle the conditions, be sure to check before heading out for the latest on lift operations. Be safe. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It is a cold morning again but it feels like we are now past the peak of that storm we have had. There's some more snow from yesterday and overnight. The fresh snowfall numbers below are from 3pm yesterday and overnight - sorry, I missed the numbers the resort was publishing during the day yesterday... so the totals will be more. My own observation is 12cm of fresh snowfall here at base. All should be open this morning and if things clear up like they seem likely to, we should be in for an all round fantastic day. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 515cm Posted on Monday 29th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After a break in the snow falling yesterday and some sunshine breaking through, this morning the snow is back and a thin layer on the ground - and the resort reporting between 1cm and 7cm of fresh snow, base to top. Actually as I write this report and look outside my window it isn't snowing, but it's due on and off during the day today and looks like it is snowing on the upper areas of the resort. The snow clouds should be remaining over the region today and tomorrow with the chance of some sun shining down on us around Wednesday. From today - until 1st April - the resort will be opening during the daytime until 5pm, rather than 4:30pm. Interesting that for the first time yesterday I did actually notice how it was keeping lighter for longer. Are we already somewhere near 'mid-season'?! The days whizz by too quickly. But I feel better when I remember that Nozawa Onsen will be open until early May. And then I remember that I have lots and lots of daily reports still to write! Have a good one. • Nozawa Now: Monday 8th January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 336cm Posted on Monday 8th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . There has been no fresh snowfall overnight, but yesterday some more falling across the mountain with the resort itself reporting up to 6cm. It remained mostly cloudy but we enjoyed a bit of sunshine and blue sky in the afternoon as well. This morning is mostly cloudy and that is what is on the latest forecast for today. It is a fairly chilly start to the day but as the day progresses today things are going to warm up, perhaps rising to around 8C later tonight (!) I'm afraid rain really does look like it is going to happen overnight tonight; we can just hope it doesn't last too long and that we perhaps get back to snow in the day tomorrow; it is actually supposed to not be as warm tomorrow. All fingers crossed! And the snow forecast around Wednesday looks promising. :) Today is the last day of the long weekend and a national holiday in Japan. It will be busier than a normal Monday but should start getting quieter in the afternoon.
