  • Nozawa Now: Friday 23rd February 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 426cm Posted on Friday 23rd February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We have some light snow falling this morning, with a kind of light snow/dusting situation going on (on and off) since the report yesterday, so it hasn't really amounted to much in terms of cm. Perhaps we might get a few today. Beyond today, Monday is showing some potential for fresh snow. Happy to report that Skyline (and runs off it) are back open this morning, yey! Night skiing was planned for today and tomorrow but that has been cancelled (due to snow conditions). Today is a national holiday and the ski area is extending ski lift operations by 30 minutes both tomorrow and Sunday. Note: I missed the update during the day yesterday, sorry, but I think the ski area reported a few extra cm during the day. The new snowfall numbers reported below are 'since yesterday afternoon'. Not enough for a refresh/reset of course but it is still looking like we might get some of that Monday night into Tuesday. Will the forecasts be right this time? The lower part of Skyline is closed but the upper part is still available; come down via Kamoshika or Tanuki or Grand Prix. Today is the middle day of the long weekend so it will once again be very busy out there! We might get some sun later in the day. Lifts open 30 minutes longer than usual today and tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 23cm Snowfall at base this season 453cm Posted on Tuesday 27th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Greetings from a snowy Nozawa... as it should be! By 3pm yesterday the ski area was reporting 7-9cm of fresh snow on the upper areas (though that included a few from earlier in the day) and this morning they are reporting 20cm-35cm of fresh snow across the mountain. That sounds like Nozawa, doesn't it? It is a bit windy this morning but the ski area is open as planned, so you can get up top to enjoy those newly deep and fluffy conditions. I'm guessing it'll be cold up there, but it'll be worth it. :) More snow due through today (just light at the moment), and then the chance of some sun before more snow coming in on Friday into Saturday. That all sounds good to me, especially if it remains cold. Fresh snowfall since yesterday afternoon (reported by the ski area): Yamabiko: 35cm Uenotaira: 35cm Hikage: 25cm Nagasaka: 25cm Karasawa: 20cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): Yamabiko: 200cm Uenotaira: 170cm Hikage: 55cm Nagasaka: 55cm Karasawa: 30cm All lifts scheduled to operate apart from these: Challenge pair (usually closed on weekdays) Utopia pair (usually closed on weekdays) Yunomine Mizunashi Karasawa Kandahar All courses apart from the following are now open: Skyline (lower section) Jumping Hachiman Kurokura Utopia B Schneider (southern) Kandahar Mukobayashi Nozawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Tuesday 27th February 2024 Total snowfall at base 453cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 41 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 64cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 21cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 10 days January 2024 snowfall 219cm reported on 14 days February 2024 snowfall 120cm reported on 15 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 15cm Posted on Thursday 13th November 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A dusting+ since the last report, but there is some updated news to report... unfortunately it is about delayed openings. Yokoteyama has delayed opening until 22nd November. They originally wanted to open on 8th November and initially delayed to 15th November. That is now not possible. 22nd is the new target. Kumanoyu has delayed opening, with no specific new target. Basically they will open as soon as possible. It does look like we should be getting a cold front and snow early next week. The section of road (Route 292) connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture is now officially closed for the winter. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 0cm Posted on Wednesday 8th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Greetings Nozawa-loving friends. It's really good to be back. Since we last talked, we have endured a hot and sticky summer and an unseasonably warm autumn too. That seems to have been the theme of the year, and it's not one that I am keen on! So, the 2023 green season is now officially over at the resort, and everyone is busy preparing for winter. Everyone has different things to do, from roping up trees to checking ski lifts and other equipment. During a cold snap in late October, we received some snow on the upper areas of the mountain, but that has gone now with warmer temperatures since then. This morning at 9am it is just over 10C in the village. By the end of the coming weekend, it should be getting colder again, and there should be some more snowy sprinkles on the mountain. Nozawa Onsen plans to open on Saturday, 25th November 2023, which is now less than three weeks away. Obviously, we'll need snow before then to do that. • Nozawa Now: Sunday 7th May 2023

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 829cm Posted on Sunday 7th May 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Today (Sunday 7th May) is the last day of the 2022-2023 ski season in Nozawa. The ski area has done really well to remain open until now, with the Yamabiko D (1250m) and Uenotaira (2,000m) runs scheduled to be open today. It's not great weather for the last day. Basically wet with limited visibility on the mountain. With spring season feeling so long this year, it has been fun to look back on the peak season. I have lots of fine memories and I'm sure many others do too. It was not a classic in terms of amounts of snowfall, but not every season has to be - or can be, right? It was great to see lots of familiar faces for the first time in a few years too. I don't know what the visitor numbers are for the season, but there were clearly quite a lot more people around this season. All covid-related entry restrictions have now been dropped and I am guessing 23-24 will be a cracker, certainly in terms of Nozawa popularity. And hopefully in terms of snowfall, of course. Anyway, these are my last words of the season. I hope you enjoyed Nozawa if you were able to visit, or just enjoyed following the season through these reports if you were looking on from afar. I will be back in November. That's what forecasts say, with clear skies from the start tomorrow and Sunday. There's not a whole lot to report this morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 20cm Posted on Wednesday 12th November 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Howdy Skiers and Boarders, We had a leeeeetle snow yesterday, nothing to really stick at the base, but on top might hang around. Basically, it was just priming the pump, making sure the 'ol storm system works. Good news, it does. Had my first real winter driving last night, getting used to the car moving all over the place. As usual, people were flying off into the ditches. EZ does it in the early season...by the end of the season I'm flying down the road at 80+ (allegedly) without a care in the world. Just a quick note that my day job requires me to be out of town until Nov 21, so no preseason reports until then. Hopefully when I return, there will be some white stuff on the ground and we'll be only 8 days out from Opening Day, so I'll catch up with you then. Think snow. • Nozawa Now: Friday 8th April 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1133cm Posted on Friday 8th April 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. A cloudy start this morning. No cm of snow is being reported by the ski area up top. (I was down and out from yesterday afternoon, booster shot weariness, so I don't know what was happening outside from then until this morning). Anyhow what looks certain is a warm, clear, calm and sunny weekend.... and probably beyond the weekend too. Poka-poka! More lifts will be open for the weekend too - see the list below. Lower slopes are still pretty much covered with snow in the second week of April, even the Karasawa and Nagasaka areas. The snow may be looking a bit... dirty... but, remarkable! :) With the consistent warmth coming up, I would expect some big patches of ground to start appearing soon; and once they start appearing, the rest quickly seems to go. Upper areas are still reporting up to 270cm snow depth, so that lot is going to stick around for quite some time yet.
