It's pretty warm too even early. And we might get some rain later on. Actually, I need to update that - it has started raining since I started putting this together. Back to some sunshine tomorrow. Today is the last day of the season for Hakuba Goryu, Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike Kogen. From tomorrow just the top area of Happo-one will remain open. It's a bit windy but lifts look like there's spinning as they should. Hakuba 47 reporting that their snow making team have been working hard to keep things open. I wonder if involved a snow dance. That lower area is looking increasingly bare.. but still skiable. Tomorrow? Rain, I'm afraid. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. We got some cloud in the middle of the day yesterday but it remained bright and sunny and we finished off with clear blue skies before it got dark. It's another beautiful start to the day today and it will be another fine spring day with a high of about 18C in the village. Similar conditions tomorrow too, especially in the morning. We can probably expect some rain on Sunday along with a bit of a dip in temps. ----- Hey, Happo-one have extended their season! Originally their planned closing date was Wednesday 5th May, but they are now planning to be open until Sunday 9th May. (If remaining snow/conditions allow them to). Interesting. As far as I am aware, the other three will be closing at the end of Wednesday, though I'll keep an eye out for any changes. That extension also means that I'll be posting an extra four reports - I want to post a report every day of the season. I was just thinking about that the other day actually. Last season was... difficult. It really wasn't much fun reporting on the 2019-2020 winter season. This year writing the reports every day has been a much more pleasant experience. The covid-related stuff has of course been challenging for everyone and meant that many of you unfortunately haven't been able to visit. The snow clouds remain over the region with resorts reporting varying amounts of fresh snow... up top, 10-15cm at Hakuba 47 and 35cm at Cortina. Snow should be easing off today and perhaps we will have a few days of just cloud with the chance of light snow at times... possibly some periods of clearer skies. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. More snow to report - with around 10cm at base areas and 15cm higher up (though Tsugaike are reporting 38cm). Goryu appear to be reporting 30cm and a snow depth of 90cm on the upper areas. More lifts and courses are open too this morning. At Happo-one the Usagidaira and Kurobishi areas are now open. Hakuba 47 are going to be opening up from 8am on Friday and they are doing it in style - in 'sensational' style, as they say themselves! - all of the runs should be open right from the first day. Impressive indeed. More snow due today and tomorrow (not as much). There's more due Friday and Saturday too. Beyond that perhaps we'll get something of a break from the snowfall and maybe some sun. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Lots of snowfall since my report yesterday and some varying numbers. Happo-one are reporting 25cm from base, a curiously low 15cm from Kurobishi and 41cm on Usagidaira. Hakuba 47 are reporting 30cm. Around that number is what I am seeing too. The snow clouds remain over the region and we are due more, with a decent amount seemingly on the forecast for tomorrow night. The Toomi lift at Hakuba Goryu is open this morning and that course down at base there is open as well as all the top area of Goryu. And as I mentioned yesterday, Hakuba 47 plans to be open from tomorrow. In other news, Kashimayari and Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field will both be opening from tomorrow, Friday 18th December. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . 4PM REPORT UPDATE: Hakuba Happo-one will be opening tomorrow morning. The Adam Gondola will start the season from 8:30am and the Panorama Course is planned to be open. They are reporting a good 70cm of snow up there. Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba 47 are also talking about aiming for opening tomorrow... ----- ORIGINAL MORNING REPORT: Hello from Hakuba and I am very pleased to be able to report snowfall. Happo-one are reporting a very healthy sounding 27cm of snowfall on their upper slopes, with 6cm down at base Nakiyama. Tsugaike Kogen are also adding 27cm to their upper slope numbers. Very nice! Down at base I am measuring 8cm. It is still snowing and the forecast remains good for snow through this week. While I am not hearing of any additional ski area openings just yet, as the snow falls we can expect things to be happening - and quite possibly quite quickly. I'll do my best to keep up with the news, checking and updating information each morning. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. There has been a lot to check and I have been making some adjustments to the page this morning. Those adjustments will be ongoing as the season gets going. OK so what do I have for you... Hakuba Happo-one and Hakuba Goryu are part open from this morning: Three lifts are moving at Hakuba Happo-one this morning and the Panorama course is now open. The top area of Hakuba Goryu is also open from this morning. And of course Tsugaike Kogen remains part open. At all three of those ski areas you need to take the gondola lift up to the area that is open. The forecast remains snowy. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . (Updated after a walk and checking on snow) Hello and good morning from a beautiful Madarao. We have snow! And a really good amount of it has been delivered since yesterday, too. The ski area is actually reporting 39cm this morning! And there is evidence of that. I can't report as much as that from my measuring point, but well over 20cm is certainly a very nice surprise and most welcome. Right now we have blue sky with some cloud, and the mountain is looking beautiful. Very exciting that the winter season is upcoming. Still we must wait for over three more weeks before ski lifts get moving. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I have been holding off posting today, waiting for news from Kumanoyu. And here it is: Kumanoyu ski area will open on Friday (21st November). That follows Yokoteyama ski area, which is still planning for it's 'pre-open' from tomorrow morning. (What does pre-open mean? It's a weird one. Just take it as 'open', or a limited opening, which it was always going to be anyway). So... Yokoteyama tomorrow and then Kumanoyu on Friday. I also need to mention the fresh snow we have enjoyed. About 20cm of it. Nice. And more in places, too. Expecting more clearer skies than sun over the next week or so, perhaps with some fresh on Friday night. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Lots of fresh snowfall since yesterday, indeed another 30cm or so... and up to 50cm being reported from mountain top areas. It is snowing lightly at the moment. No announcements from the ski area as yet, but an opening on 22nd seems like it might be possible. Exciting! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 23cm Good afternoon from Niseko. Some more snow since my last report, though not a huge amount. It has been mostly just cloudy today so far, with some very light snow falling at times. Regarding my comments yesterday, I can reveal that - even though I do hibernate each summer - I am not actually a bear. Once the lifts get moving my reports will be daily. Until then, especially when nothing of note is happening, I won't post on some days as I build up stamina in preparation for all the upcoming daily busy-ness. I'll keep you informed of fresh snow, of course.
