Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 1245cm Posted on Wednesday 11th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A very good morning to you all from Yuzawa. The snow took a bit of time to get going properly yesterday but to get to the headlines... there's just under 25cm of snow on the top of my car this morning (it has been parked there since yesterday morning) and resorts are reporting around 30cm of fresh snowfall overnight. Kagura were during the day (yesterday) reporting 20cm, so I reckon that's 50cm up there since yesterday. Nice. It is a very welcome return to feeling like mid winter again! Snow continues to fall and is expected for the day and tomorrow too; the snow clouds possibly even hanging around the region into Friday. This may very well be the last considerably fall of the season, so the more the better. Not much wind this morning here at town level anyway but a chance of stronger later on. For now though, it would seem that the skijo will all be opening as planned. It's brilliant to see the fresh snow on the ground. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 430cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 320cm Iwappara: 245cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 365cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 240cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 285cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 225cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Wednesday 11th March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1245cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 59 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 38cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 1259cm Posted on Thursday 12th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing most of the day yesterday - a few periods when it looked like it might actually clear up - but curiously we didn't get that much in terms of new cm. My still-unmoved car has 14cm of snow on top this morning, that's since yesterday morning, and I can see that Kagura report 5cm and Maiko also report 5cm since last night. Interestingly, my friend who works over in the next valley to us in Tokamachi says that it was really coming down over there during the day and there was 30cm to clear off their car by the end of the day. Anyway. It's still snowing now and should be for the day so we should be on for some more. Actually in the last few minutes it has really started coming down hard which is good to see. Snow clouds should be over the region giving us more or less into early Saturday with clearer skies forecast from Sunday and early in the week next week we can expect warmer conditions too - perhaps a return to spring. I didn't make it out onto the slopes yesterday but with some more overnight conditions should be pretty good out there. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 460cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 330cm Iwappara: 245cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 370cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 240cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 310cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 230cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Thursday 12th March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1259cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 60 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 52cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 1269cm Posted on Friday 13th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Started snowing quite heavily once I had posted the report yesterday and especially during the morning it continued, less so in the afternoon. Hearing reports from GALA Yuzawa yesterday of a deep 75+cm up there - thanks Mick Rich-san - so there's a lot of fresh snow to be enjoyed at the moment. Not bad at all for mid March! Since my last report there's been about 10cm down in town. Interestingly Kagura only reporting 3cm. Anyway after this welcome blast of winter, we about to start heading back into spring weather. It was still actually snowing very lightly just before but there's some clearing in the clouds and even a bit of sun now, going to be a bit warmer. It might even rain later on which would be a real shame given the fresh snow. Please no. Tomorrow maybe a little colder before sun and warmer conditions altogether from Sunday. Going into next week the forecast is telling us to expect some really warm temperatures... how do you fancy 15+ degrees?! For the moment though, some great conditions to ride. Last time for nighta at a few resorts tomorrow night. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 450cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 340cm Iwappara: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 375cm Maiko Snow Resort: 380cm (upper) 240cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 316cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 230cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Friday 13th March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1269cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 61 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 62cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Saturday 14th March 2015
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 1272cm Posted on Saturday 14th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday ended up with some very changeable conditions. By 9am we had some lovely almost clear blue skies and the sun bright and all very shiny. Great start to the day and some nice conditions to be found. Cloud started forming mid morning though and by around 11am it was a much more overcast feel and soon snow was falling again. It didn't amount to much really, and by evening with temperatures rising a little it was actually raining. Then later on last time I looked outside it was snowing. On the car outside this morning there's 3cm of snow, and resorts reporting just a bit as well - Kagura reporting 5-10cm is the most. And we weren't quite expecting it but the sun is out again and while it's a bit kind of hazy the skies are clear over Yuzawa. So much for the forecast of cloud, bit of left over snow and rain. Though with the speed things changed yesterday, I suppose anything can happen and looking north over towards Uonuma there is a bank of cloud over there... The forecast for the coming week is one that reads of a confident Spring returning. If the forecasts are right there is going to be lots of sun, and a real warm up with temperatures easily getting into double digits here in town on some days. Unlikely to see snow even higher up with the freezing point rising way above out highest mountains. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 460cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 320cm Iwappara: 240cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 365cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 230cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 309cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 230cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Saturday 14th March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1272cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 62 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 65cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was one of those 'best forgotten' days in a season. Nasty rain falling lots of the time - and quite heavily at times - along with mild conditions. Just generally not very nice at all. The rain seemed to stop around late afternoon and early evening yesterday. It was a bit colder last night but still keeping above zero, and this morning starts off with lots of cloud over the area. Cloud and perhaps some sun making an appearance at times is forecast for the day with a high temp of around 10 degrees, followed by a good chance of sun again tomorrow. I'm sure we are all still interested in this potential snowfall early next week... it still seems to be on the cards. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 1302cm Posted on Wednesday 25th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We are being treated to a good old late season blast of winter at the moment. Snow fell for the day yesterday and there has been another 5+cm since last night. I think that it is safe to say that we can add at least another 20cm to add to what I posted yesterday morning, and there is certainly going to be more than that up on the mountains. Yesterday at the end of the day, for example, Kagura reported +30cm during the day, and this morning Maiko Snow Resort are saying that there is a fresh layer of 30cm. Kagura is also reporting this morning another 30cm of fresh (I hope it's not the same lot they reported yesterday evening!) Whatever, these are very fine numbers indeed and the people lucky enough to be here today and tomorrow should be in for something of an unexpected treat. It has been snowing lightly this morning still, but the last of the snowfall (this time anyway) should be falling this morning, with clearing up conditions expected. There's even a slight hint of sun shining through the clouds in places just now. This snowfall might well be the last fresh hurrah of the season - if you can, do try to get to enjoy it. Tomorrow onwards it's going to start warming up again and a lot of sun is forecast daily into next week. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 410cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 335cm Iwappara: 195cm Joetsu Kokusai: 260cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 310cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 230cm (lower) Naeba: 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 265cm Yuzawa Kogen: 280cm (Kogen) 230cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 185cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. - Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 1st April 2015
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1302cm Posted on Wednesday 1st April 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A much greyer palette this morning and unfortunately - as forecast - it's raining. Definitely not as warm today, as you might expect, but not cold enough for snow. Certainly not here in town anyway... let's see if Kagura can surprise us with some fluffy news tomorrow morning (though best not to expect anything there!) The sun is due to be back tomorrow with clear skies and warmer conditions once again. After that and into the weekend I'm afraid rain is what is on the forecasts currently. The coming weekend is the last weekend for a number of resorts in the area, would be good if they could enjoy some fine weather for it. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 370cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 245cm Iwappara: 150cm Joetsu Kokusai: 240cm Kagura: 350cm Kandatsu Kogen: 300cm Maiko Snow Resort: 290cm (upper) 175cm (lower) Naeba: 240cm NASPA Ski Garden: 233cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 165cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1302cm Posted on Saturday 4th April 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There were some really stunning views of a thick 'sea of clouds' hanging over the Minamiuonuma valley areas this morning, as the day started off with thick fog and low cloud. That cleared to eventually leave us with more blue skies and sunny conditions here today... not as warm though with temperatures just about getting into double digits. A bit of a wind starting up during the day and as of just before 2pm now I am hearing that Gala Yuzawa might be closing due to the wind conditions. Currently it looks like we might not get as much rain as we have been expecting for tomorrow too, most likely it will be falling in the morning. Tomorrow will probably end up a bit warmer than today though. After that a good chance of more rain early in the week and colder temps. but clearer skies are forecast mid-week onwards. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 360cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 210cm Iwappara: 125cm Joetsu Kokusai: 240cm Kagura: 350cm Kandatsu Kogen: 290cm Maiko Snow Resort: 260cm (upper) 140cm (lower) Naeba: 240cm NASPA Ski Garden: 217cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 145cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 1303cm Posted on Wednesday 8th April 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Fresh snow! There has been just a dusting here at base and town level; and the Kagura resort is reporting 5cm or so. It's great to see snow falling of course and it is still falling now lightly. It's very probably going to dry up soon though and the chance of a bit of sun and clearer skies is forecast for later on in the day today. Definitely been colder the last few days as well and the temperature is right now hovering around 0 degrees. So this afternoon things should warm up a little and a bit more tomorrow. Expect some sunshine tomorrow. Looks like increasing temperatures will be the pattern over the next week. Still, it's been colder than we expect for early April. From today, we'll try to keep up-to-date each day with details from each of the resorts that remain open with 'what's open' in terms of lifts and/or courses. See below for that. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: Official snow depth of 270cm. The South Area is now closed. The Central Area, most of the North Area and the downhill course remain open. Kagura: Official snow depth of 350cm. All three main areas of Kagura remain pretty much fully open. The 'Kagura Park' is closed now but should be re-opening in mid April. Kandatsu Kogen: Official snow depth of 260cm. The base pair lift and the Onakadaira and Ikenotaira quad lifts remain open. --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions.
