Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 20cm
Snowfall at base this season 1302cm

Posted on Wednesday 25th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

We are being treated to a good old late season blast of winter at the moment.

Snow fell for the day yesterday and there has been another 5+cm since last night. I think that it is safe to say that we can add at least another 20cm to add to what I posted yesterday morning, and there is certainly going to be more than that up on the mountains. Yesterday at the end of the day, for example, Kagura reported +30cm during the day, and this morning Maiko Snow Resort are saying that there is a fresh layer of 30cm. Kagura is also reporting this morning another 30cm of fresh (I hope it's not the same lot they reported yesterday evening!)

Whatever, these are very fine numbers indeed and the people lucky enough to be here today and tomorrow should be in for something of an unexpected treat.

It has been snowing lightly this morning still, but the last of the snowfall (this time anyway) should be falling this morning, with clearing up conditions expected. There's even a slight hint of sun shining through the clouds in places just now.

This snowfall might well be the last fresh hurrah of the season - if you can, do try to get to enjoy it.

Tomorrow onwards it's going to start warming up again and a lot of sun is forecast daily into next week.
