  • Yuzawa Now: Friday 20th March 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1272cm Posted on Friday 20th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was one of those 'best forgotten' days in a season. Nasty rain falling lots of the time - and quite heavily at times - along with mild conditions. Just generally not very nice at all. The rain seemed to stop around late afternoon and early evening yesterday. It was a bit colder last night but still keeping above zero, and this morning starts off with lots of cloud over the area. Cloud and perhaps some sun making an appearance at times is forecast for the day with a high temp of around 10 degrees, followed by a good chance of sun again tomorrow. I'm sure we are all still interested in this potential snowfall early next week... it still seems to be on the cards. Getting colder from Sunday and possibly snowfall Monday through Tuesday. --- Official snow depths: Some not updated yet due to early report GALA Yuzawa: 400cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 290cm Iwappara: 200cm Joetsu Kokusai: 260cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 310cm Maiko Snow Resort: 320cm (upper) 195cm (lower) Naeba: 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 287cm Yuzawa Kogen: 270cm (Kogen) 220cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 210cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 1282cm Posted on Tuesday 24th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It is an early report this morning mainly due to some technical work that needs to be done today... which means that some of the other reports may be delayed today. Anyway, back to this morning and it's pretty good news - 10cm of snow on the car outside and it is snowing still. Pretty decent snow too and coming down quite heavily at times... almost feels like winter again! Too early to hear any numbers from resorts but hopefully that and a bit more. The forecast is for continued snowfall today and maybe into tomorrow morning, so hopefully we'll get some more. --- Official snow depths: Numbers as of yesterday GALA Yuzawa: 370cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 260cm Iwappara: 180cm Joetsu Kokusai: 260cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 310cm Maiko Snow Resort: 290cm (upper) 190cm (lower) Naeba: 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 250cm Yuzawa Kogen: 250cm (Kogen) 200cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 185cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. • Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 25th March 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 1302cm Posted on Wednesday 25th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We are being treated to a good old late season blast of winter at the moment. Snow fell for the day yesterday and there has been another 5+cm since last night. I think that it is safe to say that we can add at least another 20cm to add to what I posted yesterday morning, and there is certainly going to be more than that up on the mountains. Yesterday at the end of the day, for example, Kagura reported +30cm during the day, and this morning Maiko Snow Resort are saying that there is a fresh layer of 30cm. Kagura is also reporting this morning another 30cm of fresh (I hope it's not the same lot they reported yesterday evening!) Whatever, these are very fine numbers indeed and the people lucky enough to be here today and tomorrow should be in for something of an unexpected treat. It has been snowing lightly this morning still, but the last of the snowfall (this time anyway) should be falling this morning, with clearing up conditions expected. There's even a slight hint of sun shining through the clouds in places just now. This snowfall might well be the last fresh hurrah of the season - if you can, do try to get to enjoy it. Tomorrow onwards it's going to start warming up again and a lot of sun is forecast daily into next week. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 410cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 335cm Iwappara: 195cm Joetsu Kokusai: 260cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 310cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 230cm (lower) Naeba: 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 265cm Yuzawa Kogen: 280cm (Kogen) 230cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 185cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. More blue sky above us this morning though cloudier out to the north and we are expecting cloudy conditions for the day today - and rain later on. It will be interesting to see if we can get snowfall at higher elevations but with the freezing level not coming down much under 2000m we probably can't expect too much. Back to sun on Monday and Tuesday with rain lined up for later in the week. Today is the last day of the 2014-2015 season for a few resorts in the region - see below for details. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's a very warm spring day here today and going to be t-shirt weather later on. High of up to 17 degrees?! Tomorrow is going to be cooler and rain is expected in the morning but after that it should be quickly warming up once again and as the forecast stands now rain for at least the first part of the weekend. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A much greyer palette this morning and unfortunately - as forecast - it's raining. Definitely not as warm today, as you might expect, but not cold enough for snow. Certainly not here in town anyway... let's see if Kagura can surprise us with some fluffy news tomorrow morning (though best not to expect anything there!) The sun is due to be back tomorrow with clear skies and warmer conditions once again. After that and into the weekend I'm afraid rain is what is on the forecasts currently. The coming weekend is the last weekend for a number of resorts in the area, would be good if they could enjoy some fine weather for it. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 370cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 245cm Iwappara: 150cm Joetsu Kokusai: 240cm Kagura: 350cm Kandatsu Kogen: 300cm Maiko Snow Resort: 290cm (upper) 175cm (lower) Naeba: 240cm NASPA Ski Garden: 233cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 165cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There were some really stunning views of a thick 'sea of clouds' hanging over the Minamiuonuma valley areas this morning, as the day started off with thick fog and low cloud. That cleared to eventually leave us with more blue skies and sunny conditions here today... not as warm though with temperatures just about getting into double digits. A bit of a wind starting up during the day and as of just before 2pm now I am hearing that Gala Yuzawa might be closing due to the wind conditions. Currently it looks like we might not get as much rain as we have been expecting for tomorrow too, most likely it will be falling in the morning. Tomorrow will probably end up a bit warmer than today though. After that a good chance of more rain early in the week and colder temps. but clearer skies are forecast mid-week onwards. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 360cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 210cm Iwappara: 125cm Joetsu Kokusai: 240cm Kagura: 350cm Kandatsu Kogen: 290cm Maiko Snow Resort: 260cm (upper) 140cm (lower) Naeba: 240cm NASPA Ski Garden: 217cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 145cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Fresh snow! There has been just a dusting here at base and town level; and the Kagura resort is reporting 5cm or so. It's great to see snow falling of course and it is still falling now lightly. It's very probably going to dry up soon though and the chance of a bit of sun and clearer skies is forecast for later on in the day today. Definitely been colder the last few days as well and the temperature is right now hovering around 0 degrees. So this afternoon things should warm up a little and a bit more tomorrow. Expect some sunshine tomorrow. Looks like increasing temperatures will be the pattern over the next week. Still, it's been colder than we expect for early April. From today, we'll try to keep up-to-date each day with details from each of the resorts that remain open with 'what's open' in terms of lifts and/or courses. See below for that. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: Official snow depth of 270cm. The South Area is now closed. The Central Area, most of the North Area and the downhill course remain open. Kagura: Official snow depth of 350cm. All three main areas of Kagura remain pretty much fully open. The 'Kagura Park' is closed now but should be re-opening in mid April. Kandatsu Kogen: Official snow depth of 260cm. The base pair lift and the Onakadaira and Ikenotaira quad lifts remain open. --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. It's cleared up now though and a bit of low cloud in the valleys aside it is going to be a fine and sunny day and warm up to around 13-14 degrees in town. With the fast snow melting, it will be interesting to see if they still do that.
