Hopefully not strong enough to affect the lifts but a real possibility. We seem to be ok for the moment though. We could do with a large amount of fresh snow to really give us a complete refresh. After the warmer climes of yesterday - when we avoided the rain that lots of areas got, it was snowing here in Kumanoyu where I was for the day - it's much colder this morning. It might have snowed yesterday and overnight but not much in terms of cm. Light snow still falling and a light wind (stronger in some exposed areas I suspect), but generally we're expecting cloudy conditions with just sometimes snow showers today, and a bit of sun tomorrow. Importantly it should be keeping cold this time and then dip further once we get into the weekend which at the moment is forecast to be generally snowy conditions again. Generally quite hard conditions out there yesterday, so a decent fresh layer of soft is what we would like. Up to 10cm of wet snowfall in some areas of Shiga Kogen overnight (Kumanoyu report 10cm), but it's a warm morning - well, warm for us, with the thermometer showing the temp to be around 2 degrees now. Still, it is snowing here in the Maruike area. Not the fluffiest of powder, but snow all the same and with the temps set to drop during the day we're hoping for some nicer snow to report tomorrow... should be continuing snowing through tomorrow too with another wave following up as we get into the weekend. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A fine day yesterday with the sun out shining and lovely blue skies above, but temperatures remaining down there good and cold. This morning a bit of fresh snow on the ground and mostly cloudy conditions around the region, light snow falling in places. Snow on the forecast for today and through the weekend though differing forecast views on how much to expect. We'll just have to wait and see. Not the nicest of conditions out but once it passes things should be brilliant... Clouds and snow eased somewhat just now, but snow is forecast to continue falling throughout the day today. For those here tomorrow, a sunny day possible? Resorts seem to be adding 30cm to the snow depth this morning (or none in the case of Okushiga Kogen!) - there's more than that fallen, quite a lot more in places. Some lifts affected by the wind - Okushiga Kogen do not seem to be moving any lifts at all as of 10am - and there might be more disruption due to the wind. No snow earlier - just cloud and gas - but it has started snowing again now (actually quite heavily in the last few minutes) and fingers crossed we're on for a few days of snowfall that will bring new cm to the area. Poor visibility in places this morning. Yesterday was the first evening of the season when the floodlights were on and some lifts moving. Good to see nighta back! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Quite a strong northerly wind in areas this morning blowing around the snow that is continuing to fall. It's a bit calmer down here in the Maruike part of Shiga Kogen but still snow falling. Very cold too. Seems quite busy today, and I just remembered a good reason why... it's a national holiday today. The Shibutoge area of Shiga Kogen - the far southern area, connected with Yokoteyama and run by the same folk - is now open. Clearer skies are forecast for tomorrow with a good chance of snow falling on Christmas Day. Not only lots of fresh snow for us to play in, but also the sun is out this morning. Keeping cold hopefully for the day. Expected to get a bit warmer tomorrow but possibly windy as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Another 5+cm of snow overnight and it is still snowing lightly now. As we had hoped it's keeping cold and should continue now like that into next week. It's still quite windy conditions out there which is affecting a few lifts... most noticeably that I can see at Yakebitaiyama where the Gondolas and Number 2 and 3 high speed lifts are on hold early morning. Cloud and snow showers forecast into the weekend, with a chance of more volume snow over Saturday and Sunday. Monday is a national holiday in Japan so we are approaching one of the main peak weekends of the season. Have to be careful when I say it's not cold as people coming from places where cold is less than +10C have a different view on these things! Cloudy really this morning. Sky and sun later maybe? That's what the forecast tells us. From around Wednesday we expect temperatures to drop once again back down to 'extremely cold' levels though it does not seem to be that we can expect heavy snow. More like just a bit here and there. Regular topups are what we (always) want. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing heavily in Shiga Kogen this morning as we expected. With wind blowing the light snow around it's difficult to put a number on it, but I'm going to go with 30cm and counting this morning. Some heroic under-reporting from the resorts with some adding 0-5cm to their snow depths. Regular readers will know how that frustrates your friendly reporter! I just don't get it. I'd be shouting out about it as much as I could if I were in the ski resorts shoes. But there you go, it seems unlikely that it will change. Well anyway, conditions should be pretty deep out there this morning. With wind and poor visibility though, it's only for the brave! A few resorts seeing lifts affected by the wind but for the moment things seem to be almost open as planned. As I have said more of Shiga Kogen plans to open from this coming Saturday and this storm will have moved on well before then. Might even get clear and sunny on Friday which would be great. OK so snow and wind forecast to continue all today and tomorrow.
