The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good news and not as good news. Which do you want first? Let's go with the good news. A return to winter! It's a very cold morning in Hakuba. -8C at the moment and not looking likely to get much warmer during the day. We also have new snowfall to report. Not much down here in the village - up to 5cm or so in places - but Goryu is reporting up to 20cm which Hakuba Cortina has the most reported with 40cm of fresh. Nice. The less good news is that it's also some strong winds this morning, and that is affecting some lift operations at resorts around the valley . At the time of writing here is the lifts I can see as being affected (and not moving), but of course this is subject to change depending on the conditions: The Gondola at Hakuba 47. Skyline Number 2 pair at Happo-one. Cortina are saying that due to avalanche danger, the Number 4 and 5 pair lifts are closed. Best to check before getting a ticket as the NNE winds are due to continue for the day. OK so the snow doesn't look like it is going to continue today leaving us with mostly just cloudy weather. Cloud and cold is what is forecast tomorrow as well but importantly it is going to keep colder which is good to hear. Later on Friday and through the weekend we are expecting snow to be falling. Well I'm happy to report that we did get some new snow overnight on the mountains with the most being reported by Hakuba Goryu, Hakuba 47 and Happo-one - all saying 15cm of fresh up top. Other resorts are coming in with numbers up to 10cm, while down here in the village we just got a few cm or so. It was a round lunchtime yesterday when the snow clouds moved in on the area and snow in the mountains, gradually coming down to village level. There's lots of cloud hanging around this morning, but blue sky and sun as well. The forecast is for sun and I can believe it, we're on for a clear up I would say this morning. It's going to maybe warm up to a mild +5C today and tomorrow similarly mild. I hate to say it but rain looks likely before snowfall hopefully on Friday. Back to right now - one of the Happo-one webcams is giving some pretty spectacular images at the moment with the lift rising above a thick bank of cloud but blue skies and the sun shining down on the slopes at the same time. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Lunchtime yesterday and it was raining in the village, with temperature rising to around +3C, though it was snowing as you got higher up. Hakuba 47 yesterday said that 3cm of snow fell on the upper slopes during the day time and this morning the number stands at 15cm on the upper slopes. Similarly Goryu are saying up to 20cm on upper areas, but nothing down at base. So it probably goes without saying - head higher for the snow conditions. People talking about spring like conditions in January is not good but like I said there are usually one or two blips in a season. But January as a whole has been on the dry side. We are just hoping that February will be the comeback month. OK back to the forecasts. We might see the clouds clear today and even a bit of sun. Sun tomorrow morning at least, and then warm and rainy on Sunday. But come Tuesday things are looking more interesting. We should be having a return to very cold conditions and snow falling. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Nice light snow to report this morning. -5C and snowing. OK so perhaps not as much as I'd like to report - generally around 5cm at base and 10cm on upper slopes being reported (15cm at Hakuba 47), but it is still snowing so we should be on for more during the daytime today. Hopefully lots. I somehow feel there'll be more up there than what has been reported this morning. It will be piling up nicely this morning filling in those tracks as they get made. Wind doesn't seem to be an issue at all this morning and all resorts appear to be open as planned at time of writing. Recuded visibility of course due to the snow coming down. Tomorrow we might see continued snow but it looks like today is the main event this weekend snow-wise. So get ready for the snow and take care out there. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It did cloud over yesterday and was snowing mid-afternoon. This morning we have a few cm to report from around the resorts, with up to 5cm on upper slopes around the valley. Nice blue skies this morning though quite a lot of low cloud hanging around just over the village... some classic 'lifts about the clouds' views on the Happo webcam at the moment. As of 9am it is -7 degrees at village level and while it will warm up, just to around -3 this afternoon. Overnight we are looking at snow, and hopefully a good amount as well. As per our reports, while we have had deliveries of snow on upper slopes, it has been very limited down on lower areas - which means head higher for the better conditions. Fingers crossed tomorrow morning we'll be able to report some decent snowfall down on the lower slopes as well. That would make for a great start to the weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Snow and more snow yesterday as it fell pretty much throughout the day, leaving us with about 25cm during the day on the mountain, according to Hakuba 47. Add another 10cm that they are reporting this morning to get an idea of what to expect this morning. Hakuba Cortina in their morning update today are giving us up to 30cm on their slopes. Happo-one reporting 25cm on top of what we reported yesterday. This morning it's not that cold, around -2C at the moment, and the snow has eased off for the moment. It's a bunch of different conditions at the moment actually with sun shining through the clouds in places, thick clouds in others and what looks like thick fog in some places. It could go either way, perhaps it'll clear up some and we'll end up with a sunny day - purely a guess, by the way. So anyway, we have enjoyed a decent snow refresh so what's ahead in the coming week. The chance of snow showers at times over the next few days but Tuesday onwards the forecasts point to clearer skies. This time, keep cold please! Should be a good day for everyone venturing out today. My guess is that due to the heavy snow in lots of places that don't usually expect snow yesterday, there may be less people out and about today. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Heavy snowfall has continued. But the weather conditions - strong winds, all that snow, and checking for safety - are causing some problems at resorts with some lifts at most of the resorts either delayed or just not moving. If you are out today, checking before going is a good idea. Back to yesterday. Heavy snowfall in the morning and after easing off in the afternoon a bit, it was coming down again during nighta in the evening. There's varying numbers from around the resorts this morning, but basically... a lot. Hakuba 47 are recording 40cm of snow since yesterday morning; 30cm at Cortina. In terms of snowfall numbers, this mid-February storm is treating us really well. It's all great and exciting to get all of this new snow of course, but at the same time extreme caution is advised out there as all this sudden snowfall poses real avalanche dangers outside of the resorts areas. Today is really not the day to go exploring. There's plenty of untouched snow on the resorts courses this weekend - especially with the traffic problems that are still preventing lots of people from actually getting here. The snow is expected to ease off today and while we might still have some snow showers, we might also get to see a bit of the sun later tomorrow. Take care out there. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . OK so the snow did ease off yesterday as expected. The clouds started to disperse mid morning, things calmed down and by lunchtime we had nice blue skies over Hakuba. It was clearly quieter than you would expect for a normal Sunday in mid February. The heavy snow in lots of low-lying areas that aren't used to it really did knock out lots of (almost all!) transportation options and there have been some amazing stories of people stranded and also very sad ones of even some weather related deaths. Sometimes it's difficult snow country people who are used to the snow to grasp just how disruptive the snow can be. Back to today and clouds haved moved back in over Hakuba and light snow has started to fall. Oh yes just a few cm of snow to add to the haul we had yesterday. It is a bit warmer this morning and as we approach 9am it is just hovering under 0 degrees. Avalance risk and dangers remain high. Powder remains on the slopes - enjoy them! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A very good morning from a very snowy Hakuba. This is how we like it! Lots of snow to report this morning. Goryu: 20-30cm Hakuba 47: 30-40cm Happo: 15-30cm Cortina: 20-25cm No official new snowfall number from Tsugaike, but they have added 40cm to a few of their snow depth numbers. Lots down at village level as well which is obviously great to see. The snow was coming down nicely yesterday and by evening there was 15cm or so down here. It has been nice and light as well, and really nice big flakes coming down right this morning. Traffic problems and closed roads caused by snow to the south in the cities will again mean that it will probably be quieter than usual for a mid season Saturday here. For those here, it should be a fantastic morning. With more snow due through the day today and overnight, tomorrow should be great too. :) Oh yes one more thing. Two actually. It's not mad cold this morning. In fact it's close to zero at base, obviously colder higher up. We hope it remains colder than warmer, obviously. It was cold through the day yesterday with the sun making some extended appearances, and while there was no new cm of snowfall it has kept good conditions due to the continued cold temps. This morning there has been a light snowfall in places with Hakuba 47 reporting 2-5cm and Cortina up to 5cm. Visibility is ok on the lower slopes but it looks like most of the runs this morning to start off with at least covered in cloud/fog with poor visibility. While it isn't snowing here in the village right now, I heard that snow is coming down on the roads around Tsugaike and some of the resorts are early on reporting snowy conditions up there. Most forecasts have us just down for cloud for the day though perhaps the odd snow shower in the first part of the day. From tomorrow it's looking like a run of clear and sunny days. Hopefully it'll keep cold over the weekend but there's a good chance that warmer conditions will prevail early in the week and temperatures nudging into positive numbers down at base. Should be a good weekend. After the traffic chaos last weekend, all being clear I would expect some people wanting to make up for it this coming weekend... expect popular places to be very busy! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Light snow on and off during the day yesterday. We even got some clearings in the clouds from time to time in the middle of the day and some brief appearances by the sun, but come evening the snow was falling again. It didn't amount to much in terms of new snowfall though with just a few cm being reported from across the resorts - most coming in from Cortina with up to 5cm. This morning while there is still a lot of cloud around, there's some blue sky too and sunlight shining down on slopes here and there. Feels like it might clear up and be a fine day here, and any light snow that might be falling at higher elevations will probably stop fairly soon. Tomorrow is forecast to be similarly cloud/sun. Actually there's more clearer conditions lined up on the forecasts than there is snow for the coming week, so we'll get to see the mountains again. Clearer conditions of course don't mean that avalanche risk disappears along with the clouds. Take care out there and enjoy the current snow conditions. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Rain yesterday down here in the village I'm afraid, but snow (borderline sleet at times) was falling at higher elevations at times during the day. Hakuba 47 reported 1cm or so of snow mid afternoon. Light rain this morning too, but I am happy to report that has stopped now and it's just cloudy at the moment. Looks like upper slopes of the resorts are shrouded in cloud and fog with poor visibility out there. Tomorrow is the first day of March of course. Snow would be a good start to the new month and it does seem to be a chance of snowfall during the day tomorrow. It's still going to be quite mild though, so it's all borderline.
