Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 442cm
Posted on Wednesday 3rd February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.
It is cold and clear this morning; -9° on the car thermometer, and similar numbers being reported by the resorts that have submitted reports.
Blue skies and sparkly snow as well; no clouds overhead at the moment, although it is pretty gray to the north over the sea, with the clouds slowly moving toward us.
Hopefully today will see a few more centimeters added to the snowpack, before what looks like a sunny and slightly warmer day tomorrow. The heavy snow predicted for Friday has now slid into Saturday; I hope this doesn't follow the too-often pattern of "heavy" becoming "showers." We could still use a whole lot all at once, especially for the backcountry. Speaking of which, the snow is pretty stable but you can still get whacked by the bush (rather than the other way around).
Akakura Kanko has finally reached 2 meters. Yea!
