Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 823cm Posted on Wednesday 4th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Few cm of snow on the mountain since yesterday (up to 10cm higher up, just a bit lower down) and mixed weather conditions at 8am this morning. Cloudy low down and higher up too (fog) with some clearer conditions mid mountain. I think the cloud will clear up this morning and the sun break through for a fine day. That's what the forecast says and it feels like that's what will happen today. Maybe some light snow at times Friday but other than that generally calm and fine weather through until Sunday. Temperatures might be nudging into positive (but low) numbers over the next few days down at village level but remaining firmly in the negative up top. Next snow storm looks set to arrive over Nozawa sometime Sunday. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and welcome back to the Nozawa Now reports here on SnowJapan. After a good rest and re-charge, I'm back and ready to go for the 15/16 season here in Nozawa. The end of last season seems such a long time ago, but at the same time... somehow not that long ago. Every season here in Nozawa brings a different kind of 'busy', but I always think that for many folk here in the village, November is one of the busiest. Lovely autumn colours for those able to take some time to enjoy them over the last few weeks, along with colder temperatures (sometimes very chilly) telling us that winter is up next. And there a lots of ongoing preparations for the coming winter going on at the moment. Nozawa Onsen hopes to open for the season on Saturday 28th November. It will depend on snowfall of course, and I'll keep you updated from time to time over the next few weeks with the latest. In the meantime take a look back over previous seasons to see how things have shaped up. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 3cm Posted on Saturday 28th November 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday it was great to see some snow falling here in Nozawa and things starting to turn white around lunchtime. Not much has changed in how things are looking this morning. Early morning cloud has been clearing the last hour or so leaving us with bits of blue sky on show - for now. Rain or sleet or snow is forecast for the day today, with us obviously hoping for the latter. Temperatures are likely to top out around +5C midday though so perhaps we can realistically just hope for that later on tonight when things get colder. I wouldn't be too expectant though as it doesn't look set to get that cold. There really isn't a huge amount of snow lined up on the weekly forecasts - just some here and there. Hopefully nature can surprise us soon. We can only just be hopeful, sit tight and wait now. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning and not a whole lot to report really. Not much was added to what we got yesterday and this morning it is cloudy here in Nozawa. There was even a bit of sun peeking through the clouds before though back to just cloud now. It's not particularly cold and a high of about 6 degrees is expected in the village later. So as you might expect from that, there is not enough snow to open yet. I almost don't want to report it but there's not much sign of snow on the weekly forecast either I'm afraid, with clearer skies expected Monday through until around Thursday, so it seems that we are going to need to be more patient for a while longer. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After a fine day yesterday with blue skies and importantly low temperatures, snow clouds moved back over the region and this morning there's a new 30-30cm of fresh fluffy snow to enjoy. So it's definitely a good morning from here in Nozawa. Couldn't ask for much more in a morning. Well, I suppose we could and we always want more... But this 30+cm is all important. A good news layer when we really need it to build up base and get more of the resort open. It is still snowing this morning and probably will continue until sometime this afternoon when it's forecast to ease off and just leave us with cloudy conditions. As for extra courses and lifts opening today, I do not have any confirmed news at the time of writing this report but it would not surprise me. I am hearing that maybe the Hikage Number 2 pair and Nagasaka Triple lifts will be moving today. If you are in Nozawa check with the ticket counters before you go up for the very latest. Whatever, it should be great out these this morning. Hope you can get to enjoy it. Wrap up well and don't forget the face mask. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa where right now light snow is falling. There has been 15+cm of snow on upper areas since my report yesterday and fingers crossed there will be more snow through the day today and back tomorrow night as well - easing off somewhere between those. I wouldn't expect big numbers, though as we are still low on snow everything counts. More courses and lifts open at Nozawa now - newly open courses include Ushikube, Isemiya and Kitsune. There's still more to open of course and not enough snow yet for lots of the steeper areas. Skyline is not yet open either. Nozawa is going to be busy and bustling over the next few days, more people arriving today for their stay over the New Year. Hope you enjoy the charming village if you are going to be here. Remember to pray for snow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 126cm Posted on Friday 8th January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Nozawa. Perhaps a little unexpected but it's a bright and sunny morning - up top anyway! There's a sea of cloud hovering low down this morning which is making things a bit more gloomy on lower areas but I would expect those clouds to disappear this morning and the sun to shine on base as well. Yesterday of course we enjoyed some fresh snowfall. Not a huge amount and it never really got sustained 'full on' snowfall, but there is a new layer (10cm on Yamabiko) which is fingers crossed going to be supplemented tonight with some decent snowfall expected as we enter the weekend. Sunday-Monday is also still looking very promising. Enough of the promise, results please! As Monday is a national holiday in Japan, this coming weekend is traditionally one of the more popular weekends of the season. The resort will be starting their lifts 30 minutes earlier than usual tomorrow, Sunday and on Monday as well. So the Gondolas will start spinning from 8:10am and the base lifts from 8am. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 133cm Posted on Saturday 9th January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Another 10+ cm on the upper slopes of Nozawa Onsen this morning and 7cm outside where I am here at base in the village, as the snow gradually builds up. I'm looking forward to the prospect of reporting numbers like 30cm and 40cm - usually something of the norm here in Nozawa - but all fresh snowfall is welcome. Conditions especially higher up should be nice this morning. Most of the lifts are operating now for the weekend with just the Kandahar and Karasawa pair not moving and a few more courses opening up - later on course details as below. Unfortunately Skyline isn't open at the start of the weekend. There will be a lot of people around this weekend, it being a long weekend and then the famous Nozawa Fire Festival coming up on the 15th. That is always a lot of fun, more on that early in the week. For now though snow continues to fall from the skies and more is forecast over the next few days. We might have a break later today but it will be back by Sunday night and then through the day on Monday looks especially promising for potentially Nozawa-like amounts of snow. Bring it on, I say. As no doubt everyone else is saying too! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday things got a bit on the wet side in the region, but this morning there is fresh snow on the ground. There's about 5cm here in base areas and the resort is reporting a fresh layer of 7-8cm on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas of the resort. Poor visibility by the looks on those upper areas this morning and better lower down - but it's higher up where most people will be heading... The snow clouds are going to weaken this morning probably leaving us with just cloudy skies for the rest of the day. Regular snowfall is actually on the forecast now over the coming week so I'll just leave it at that for now and we'll see how it pans out.
