  • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 27th December 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 33cm Posted on Sunday 27th December 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday at one point there were almost clear blue skies over the region - somehow it had turned into a beautiful day. Better than rain for sure. Clouds moved in later on in the afternoon and then in the evening it had started raining (trying to snow at times) with the sound of thunder as well. I went to bed last night listening to heavy rain making lots of noise on my roof and not in the best of moods.... just when will it turn to snow? But I am very happy to report good news from the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma areas this morning. We are enjoying proper winter-like snow this morning. There was 10cm of snow on the ground earlier on (any further snowfall since then will be in tomorrows report) and resorts have been reporting up to 20cm of snow. Snow continues to fall now and it's coming down nicely too, so fingers crossed it can continue building up. The forecast does promise snow for the day today; perhaps a break in the snowfall early morning tomorrow but more in the afternoon and tomorrow night. It goes without saying that we want as much as possible. There's lots of news and activity from the resorts around Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma as well. Maiko Snow Resort, Joetsu Kokusai and Muikamachi Ski Resort have already part re-opened; Kandatsu Kogen and Iwappara resorts are opening from 12 noon today. For resorts that were already open - more of GALA Yuzawa is open this morning and Naeba are preparing to get their Daishamen pair lift operating as well. The NASPA Ski Garden and Ishiuchi Maruyama resorts are both planning to open from tomorrow morning. That's the updates that I have available now and there may be more news during the day as resorts do their best to open as quickly as possible. I hope that we haven't missed anything. It feels like it's a case of mad panic this morning for many people, though everyone is of course very happy to finally see decent snow coming down. It feels like winter has arrived, finally. Now let's hope that we can keep this winter mode going. --- Resort operations (Sunday 27th December 2015) - subject to change: Kagura Almost all of the courses and lifts at Kagura are now open. The only areas not open yet are the top pair lift and the Mitsumata downhill course back to base. The top pair lift (Kagura Number 5 Romance lift) plans to be open this season from 1st January. The Dragondola connecting Tashiro with Naeba is not yet open. Naeba Lower Number 4 and 5 courses are open as well as the upper Takenokodaira course. In addition, the Daishamen Romance lift and Number 4 high speed lifts are planned to be operating sometime today as well. GALA Yuzawa More of GALA Yuzawa is open this morning. Most of the Chuo area is now open and part of the North Area as well. Iwappara Iwappara will be open from 12 noon today. They are hoping to have their Number 2 pair and Number 3 pair lifts operating. Joetsu Kokusai Joetsu Kokusai has a number of lifts operating from this morning. Kandatsu Kogen Kandatsu Kogen will be open from 12 noon today with three lifts (Tozawa, Onaka and Ikenodaira) operating. Maiko Snow Resort Maiko Snow Resort re-opens this morning with 6 upper Okusoeji area courses open via the Gondola. Take the Gondola up and down as the lower areas are not open. Muikamachi Hakkaisan The Technical course and Rakuraku A courses open with the Ropeway and Number 3 Romance lift operating. Muikamachi Ski Resort Muikamachi Ski Resort is open from this morning with the Number 2 pair lift operating. Confirmed news of openings: NASPA Ski Garden NASPA Ski Garden plans to open at 8:30am tomorrow morning (Monday). Ishiuchi Maruyama Ishiuchi Maruyama plans to open tomorrow (Monday). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 11cm Posted on Saturday 7th December 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Now this is a bit more like it. Everything is white again this morning, including the roads, and snow is continuing to fall. Not a huge amount, perhaps around 10cm or so, but hopefully we'll get more before it eases off. A few more resort areas are opening up lifts this morning - details of which I have posted below. It's still very limited at the moment and we do need a decent delivery of snow to open up and really get into the snow season proper here. There's quite a lot of cars coming up to the area this morning with an almost constant stream of vehicles going past my window here near the Maruike area... the slopes that are open might get quite busy today. Forecast tells us that this snowfall won't last long and there's a chance of some sun tomorrow. The forecast looks good for cold and snow mid week though. Resorts that are currently part open: Takamagahara: Reporting 30cm of snow; -5C at 8am Takamagahara Number 2 triple lift Ichinose Family: Reporting 30cm of snow; -3C at 8am Ichinose Number 2 pair lift A/B Kumanoyu (skiers only): Reporting 30cm of snow; -3C at 8am Kumanoyu Number 2 pair lift A/B Yakebitaiyama: Reporting 40cm of snow; -6C at 8am Yakebitaiyama Number 2 Yakebitaiyama Number 4 Romance Yokoteyama: Reporting 20cm of snow; -5C at 9am Yokoteyama Number 1 Sky B Yokoteyama Number 2 Sky Other resort areas remain closed as we wait for snow. • Shiga Kogen Now: Friday 22nd November 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1cm Posted on Friday 22nd November 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Today I do bring good news - the season is underway here in Shiga Kogen. One lift is open - that lift being the Number 2 pair lift at the Kumanoyu area. It did in fact open from last Saturday (16th), for the record. While there's not a whole lot of snow - and it's a mix of man-made and natural, there is a 600m or so area of runs open. They are reporting a 30cm base on the open run and there is actually complete cover of the runs of the resort - but just that stretch of the Number 3 and 4 courses open for now. Snowboarders beware.... Kumanoyu is a skiers-only area, I'm afraid. We'll be keeping an eye now open for further lift openings and report them here. There doesn't look like much chance of decent snowfall in the coming week unfortunately, with more sun likely. Still, very early still - welcome to the 13/14 season! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow is falling this morning and it's all very suitably winter-like. Snow down to lower valley level this morning with those monkeys at Jigokudani getting snowed on as well. Resorts that are open here in Shiga Kogen are mostly reporting about 10cm of snow, but I reckon we have had more like 15cm so far and it is snowing very nicely at the moment as I write this report at 9:30am. Visibility poor, a light to moderate wind... and snow. That's about it for now. If the forecast of continued snowfall over the next few days happens, we can surely expect more lifts to be running for the weekend across Shiga Kogen. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . So we got some more snow yesterday. Not huge amounts but gradually it is building up. This morning the sun is actually out. Lots of blue sky as well, though cloud hanging on and the forecasts tell us to expect snow later on today and over the weekend. A lot of snow is still needed to get Shiga Kogen fully open. The news I have this morning is that Okushiga Kogen are open for the first time this morning with their Number 2 pair lift. Hopefully there might be more news to share tomorrow morning. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . About 10cm of snow yesterday morning (which I will note in the new snow this morning for the record), but no new snowfall to report this morning. The roads still have that white icy cover though at the moment. It was very cold overnight and even this morning resort areas are reporting temps close to -10C. We're still sitting waiting for that real snowfall to get more of Shiga Kogen open up. This week we will hopefully see that happen with snowmen lined up on all of the local weather forecasts basically from tomorrow through into the weekend. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing still here. Windy too with the snow being blown about all over the place this morning, so difficult to put a number on it. There has been about 10cm on the tops of cars though and that is what some resorts are adding to their snow depths. There seem to be a few lifts around the area starting late or perhaps even not starting yet this morning - looking at Okushiga Kogen and Kumanoyu at the moment. Less people around on this Monday morning. It's a cold one though, with the wind making it feel even colder - minus double digits in places, brrr. Tomorrow should be calmer and the sun might show up. Not much to report in terms of cm right now, but with snow forecast for today and tomorrow I am hoping that we can build on what there is so far. For the moment it's actually not that cold, but should be getting colder as the day progresses. More should be open from Saturday with amongst other lifts that should be moving for the first time, the Giant, Terakoya, Higashitateyama and Nishitateyama areas also planning to be open. We will soon be more linked up and getting closer to being fully open. Hoppo Bundaira has jumped from 40cm to 80cm snow depth overnight. Don't get excited, we didn't get 40cm of new snow overnight... Colder this morning across Shiga Kogen and more snowfall to report along with some gusty wind conditions - though lifts that are open don't seem to be affected, perhaps running slower than usual. • Shiga Kogen Now: Sunday 22nd December 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 102cm Posted on Sunday 22nd December 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A good snowfall since yesterday here in Shiga Kogen. Resorts are adding between 10cm and 30+cm to their snow depths this morning and there was 20cm on the top of the car to be moved off this morning. It is still snowing and there's a moderate wind. Cold too. Need to be wrapped up and ready for the conditions, but sliding wise there's some very good conditions to be found. Variable visibility conditions now. Here in Maruike it's quite bright now but I was just up at Kumanoyu where there was a wind blowing and I couldn't see much of anything.
