  • Shiga Kogen Now: Thursday 17th December 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 31cm Posted on Thursday 17th December 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday drizzly sleet 'stuff' was falling in Shiga Kogen, but thankfully early this morning it has turned into something more like what you can call 'snow'. Actually falling quite nicely now. More like it! For the moment it's just a slight cover but if the forecast is right and it snows during the day hopefully we can build up. Snow might ease off tomorrow but hopefully back before Saturday. Depending on how much falls of course, there might well be more of Shiga Kogen open come Saturday... The Okushiga Kogen and Kumanoyu areas of Shiga Kogen are from this season allowing snowboarders as well as skiers. All welcome! • Shiga Kogen Now: Monday 8th February 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 337cm Posted on Monday 8th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Fine weather since yesterday afternoon here in Shiga Kogen and this morning starts with clear skies and sunshine. Still since my report yesterday there was new snow falling and so that's the 'new snowfall' that appears in the report this morning. Today will probably be fine for the whole of the day but we'll be back to snowfall tomorrow. Tomorrow night is supposed to be the peak of this particular delivery of snow, so let's hope there's a lot. You may have noticed on the forecast talk of rain on Saturday. It does look like large parts of the region at least are going to be experiencing unseasonably warm conditions. We really do want to avoid that (obviously) so all offerings to the snow gods should be submitted now! • Shiga Kogen Now: Sunday 7th February 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 331cm Posted on Sunday 7th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen and I'm happy to report just over 8cm of snow round the back of my place and I hear resorts reporting 10-15cm on the slopes as well early on. Nice. Would be great if we could get into the pattern of getting that and more on most days, but there you go. We'll take what we are given. It is continuing to snow now though visibility here in the Maruike area anyway remains fairly decent considering it's still coming down. I even saw some blue sky over by Ichinose a little earlier. Light snow seems to be what the forecasts are telling us to expect today. As for tomorrow, I think there's a chance of sunny skies before we get more snow from Tuesday. Looks like it might be strong winds as well around Tuesday and Wednesday along with particularly cold temperatures. Bring it all on, I say. For this morning though the overnight (modest) refill should be fun to play on. Hope to see some of you out there. • Shiga Kogen Now: Wednesday 10th February 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 45cm Snowfall at base this season 382cm Posted on Wednesday 10th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's difficult to put a number on things this morning but my best attempt measuring in a few places is.... 45cm of fresh snowfall. Whatever the numbers, basically we have had a heavy load of snow delivered to Shiga Kogen since yesterday and it's still falling now. This is the kind of deep snow that really livens things up and is of course extremely welcome to see. Yey! And suddenly (or perhaps not so suddenly, but glaringly) the official snow depths at a few places at least seem rather under-reported. Anyway, fine times. Lets hope we can avoid the nasty looking rain that most places are due for on Saturday - and maybe even up here as well. It wouldn't be fair to get all this lovely snowfall and then get rained on. Tomorrow the sun will probably be out which should make it an excellent choice of day to be skiing or snowboarding. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 595cm Posted on Monday 10th March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . After the blue skies we enjoyed yesterday, it's back to mid-winter today. Heavy snow is falling, there's a wind blowing it about and I can hardly see anything at all out of the window here in Maruike just now. White out conditions. Not the nicest of conditions to be out on the slopes and numerous lifts seem to be on hold due to the conditions at the moment. Best idea today is to take an onsen I reckon. But if you do go out you need to wrap up and be prepared to brave the elements! It feels more like mid January than mid March right now. Tomorrow and Wednesday are likely to be clearer and mid week we are expecting milder conditions. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday, it rained. Not nice and obviously not good for the snow out there on the slopes. The much better news is that today it is snowing. Not the lightest or driest snow, as temperatures remain relatively mild (though still in the negatives), but it is actually falling quite heavily at the moment and a wind blowing around as well. Here's to a nice new layer to cover up the icy snow underneath. Clearer skies are forecast for tomorrow. Look for a warmup as we enter the new week and a sunny start to the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Loads of snow at the moment as this winter storm continues to deliver. Not the nicest of conditions out but once it passes things should be brilliant... Clouds and snow eased somewhat just now, but snow is forecast to continue falling throughout the day today. For those here tomorrow, a sunny day possible? Resorts seem to be adding 30cm to the snow depth this morning (or none in the case of Okushiga Kogen!) - there's more than that fallen, quite a lot more in places. Some lifts affected by the wind - Okushiga Kogen do not seem to be moving any lifts at all as of 10am - and there might be more disruption due to the wind. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 140cm Posted on Wednesday 17th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing heavily in Shiga Kogen this morning as we expected. With wind blowing the light snow around it's difficult to put a number on it, but I'm going to go with 30cm and counting this morning. Some heroic under-reporting from the resorts with some adding 0-5cm to their snow depths. Regular readers will know how that frustrates your friendly reporter! I just don't get it. I'd be shouting out about it as much as I could if I were in the ski resorts shoes. But there you go, it seems unlikely that it will change. Well anyway, conditions should be pretty deep out there this morning. With wind and poor visibility though, it's only for the brave! A few resorts seeing lifts affected by the wind but for the moment things seem to be almost open as planned. As I have said more of Shiga Kogen plans to open from this coming Saturday and this storm will have moved on well before then. Might even get clear and sunny on Friday which would be great. OK so snow and wind forecast to continue all today and tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 110cm Posted on Monday 15th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . 10cm or so of new snowfall overnight and it is still falling. A quite strong wind blowing around as well just now. Local forecasts are for the snow clouds to ease this afternoon, but they'll be back tomorrow with good snowfall but strong winds lined up for Wednesday and Thursday. Lots more of Shiga Kogen should be open from Saturday... almost fully open perhaps? If we get the snow we expect this week I think there's a decent chance.
