Very popular today and good skiing to be had but snow started falling around 2pm and the fresh will make tomorrow nice. Let's wait and see how much. No wind today, -8 in town, -11 on resort. Have a great New Year's Eve - Furano is traditional so most restaurants are closed today and tomorrow. The New Furano Prince Hotel has fireworks at midnight, three restaurants and a top floor bar that will have a pretty awesome view tonight. Just sort your transport home before you bundle the fam over there. Blue sky this morning, now cloudy on the resort but still blue to the east so the Tokachi mountains are breathtakingly beautiful. No wind. Lovely day. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The morning started off cloudy and then we were hit with a period of strong sun breaking through the clouds, and now back to full cloud cover. The upper part of the mountain is enveloped by light cloud so there will be some compromise in visibility high up, but in general it is still good. Light snow has been continually falling, although it is really only the lightest of flurries at the moment. There was 2cm accumulation overnight. The forecast for the next few days is for continuous light snow, with a heavier fall on Saturday evening. Strong winds are on the radar for Sunday morning, bit these should pass by Sunday afternoon. There are quite a few course closures on the Kitanomine side at the moment, or coming up soon. These are for junior high school ski competitions, so it may be worth taking a break and to see how good these young athletes can ski the poles courses. It certainly inspires me to up my game! The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Well the morning has started on a very positive note. There is a good 12cm on fresh snow in the village since the last report went up which is going to mean some pretty serious powder areas on the mountain. First up gets the pick, but there will be plenty to go around. If powder is not your thing then the groomers are going to be in superb conditions with beautiful soft powder underfoot. There is very little in the way of breeze right now, and looking up reveals that it is high broken cloud with large patches of sunny skies showing. Tomorrow morning should be similar and then we will lose the sun from Friday. Light snow is expected to fall for the next 6 days with Sunday looking to be very windy. It is a milder day with -8c recorded in the village earlier this morning, but it has already warmed up substantially and I have just had a look at my outside thermometer which is reading -2c. The snow just seems to keep coming on a daily basis and this morning there is another 7cm to report. There is no snow falling at the moment but we can expect some light snow again from the afternoon. Temperatures should be back to colder norms from tomorrow, and tomorrow morning looks like some moderate winds will hit the resort, reducing a little on Saturday, and then Sunday could be quite gusty. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is all good news to report from Furano this morning. There has been a significant dump of snow with total measured accumulation of 17cm in the village. Out on the mountain it would be reasonable to expect 30+cm I think. Summed up in 2 words...powder day. If you have access to fat skis this is definitely the day to strap them on and go looking for some face shots. You shouldn't have too much difficulty finding the pow though. The wind is non existent, and in the last half hour the skies have gone from full overcast to broken cloud, and the sun is now beaming through. Temperatures are nice and cold and back to wintery norms. There is no snow falling at the moment but light snow is predicted to fall during the day. Strongish winds are still on the forecast for tomorrow, but the wind forecasts haven't come true for the last couple of days. There is also the possibility of another good dump of snow from Sunday afternoon onwards! It is the last day of ski competitions for this week. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Windy but plenty on nice snow sums up the report today. The winds have arrived as forecast and have increased from light to moderate this morning in the village. I expect the situation to be gusty up on the mountain, particularly in the exposed areas. Tomorrow the winds will reduce a little before increasing again on Sunday to strong levels, and then reducing by Monday morning. We have been blessed by snow again overnight and I have recorded another 6cm in the village, so there will be some pretty decent depths on the ski area itself. It is currently snowing moderately and we expect the snow fall to continue through the day. Temperatures are pretty mild with -4c recorded at base level this morning, but it has already warmed up a couple of degrees since then. So not a particularly cold day, but the wind will definitely have an effect and a face mask would be a handy item to have in your pocket. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Late yesterday afternoon the sky started dumping snow and it just kept coming down heavily for a few hours. Looking out of the window this morning with a hot coffee in my hand I thought what a great way to start the week. With 14cm of fresh new snow blanketing the village it is going to be an epic day out on the mountain. The weather is also going to be the cream on the pudding with mostly clear skies over the resort and the morning sun making that fresh snow sparkle in the light. There is a light breeze at village level but nothing significant. No further snowfall is expected during today. Tomorrow should see more snow with the heaviest fall Tuesday evening and milder temperatures than today. Looking forward to next Saturday temperatures are currently forecast to spike well above 0c and bring rain. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good morning from Furano where there's just a dusting of new snow since the last report - 1cm measured. It doesn't seem like the forecast winds have come through as it is calm early on with not even the hint of a breeze. The whole area is just blue sky and plenty of sunshine. That forecast still says that we might see some snow later on today even though it doesn't look like it now - but we know how easily things can change. Right now though it looks like a perfect Sunday to me, I hope you can get to enjoy it. The next decent snow forecast is for around Tuesday and Wednesday. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Unfortunately the weather guy was pretty accurate with the forecast yesterday with the resort and town being hit by moderate rainfall, strong winds and warm temperatures. It rained for the whole day turning the town into slush and the tropical blip brought the locals out to chip away at their driveways which is made much easier when it is warmer. Now for the good news. Overnight, temperatures have returned to winter negatives and it is snowing moderately at village level. There has already been 6cm accumulation, and given the amount of precipitation there will be a lot more during today. The heaviest falls will occur from late afternoon onwards. There is a light to moderate wind at base level. Visibility is compromised today due to the heavy snowfall and low cloud rolling down the resort. Underfoot the slopes are going to be icy or frosty due to the thaw freeze we have just been through, however with all the new snow coming our we could be back to a powder base soon. ----------------------- Just as this report going to post winds have picked up and currently the Furano Ropeway is on hold - the Downhill Romance Number 3 lift was on hold for a short while but back running... Best to check with the resort for the very latest if you plan on being out. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Yesterday was a day that defined variable. It was foggy on mountain with moderate winds and limited visibility in the morning, then by late morning the winds had dropped and blue sky appeared. If you thought it was warm yesterday you were right, with temperature suddenly rising to +1c at midday and staying there for the afternoon. This morning is calm, although moderate winds are on the forecast. Maybe the weather guy got it wrong. There has been 8cm of accumulation of pretty heavy snow in the village. Up higher on the mountain it will definitely be lighter though. Temperatures are still pretty warm with -1c here in the village at 8am. From Friday evening the forecast is still predicting a tropical event, and heavy rain for Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It will be a great morning on the mountain. The resort has clear skies above and wind conditions are calm which was evidenced by a hot air balloon making a free flight across the valley this morning. There has been a light dusting of snow since yesterday. Temperatures have started off wintery cold with -11c recorded at the top of the resort. During the day the temperatures will rise, and from tonight they are forecast to go into positive territory through until Sunday morning. These warmer temperatures are predicted to bring rain rather than snow. We will just have to wait and see what eventuates and hopefully we can scrape through with a bit of fresh snow instead of wet rain.
