Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 9cm Snowfall at base this season 1210cm Posted on Friday 9th April 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I actually do have a new snowfall number for you this morning! There's a layer of fresh snow on the ground... and it's actually a rather respectable amount too. There's a nice white (re-)fresh look to the slopes now. All of a sudden, visions of winter flash before my eyes. Niseko Grand Hirafu are reporting a uniform 15cm of new snowfall; Annupuri are reporting 10cm. It is still snowing lightly now and we may get a little more during the day. We are forecast clearer skies and rising temperatures over the weekend. I have to get this report off early this morning - don't think wind should be an issue, so all being well the lifts will be opening. ----- Planned ski area operations: Friday 9th April 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning from official sources. - Madarao Now: Sunday 4th April 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Madarao region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 915cm Weather overview Cloudy Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Good Posted on Sunday 4th April 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Madarao. It's Sunday 4th April and the last day of the 2020-2021 winter season here in Madarao. The season is ending here with three lifts operating (Number 1, Number 2 quad and Number 3) and four courses open today. Snow melt over the last week or so in particular has been fast with the warm temperatures. But most courses were still open until close to the end which was good to see. I want to write a few words as this is my last report this season. First of all, let's check up on how much snowfall I observed here this time: November 2020: 12cm December 2020: 346cm January 2021: 297cm February 2021: 231cm March 2021: 29cm That brings the season total to 915cm snowfall at base. Last year that total number for the season was 617cm. So a much better showing. (All these numbers and more available below and on the Snowfall Analysis page). We didn’t get to see much fresh snow in March, and we did have some mild spells dotted around the season... But we enjoyed some periods of exciting heavy snowfall and some great snow conditions. That period early season in the middle of December was very exciting! It’s just a shame that more people were not able enjoy it. In recent years, the number of foreigners visiting Madarao has been growing fast. For that to suddenly be largely cut off this season has been a bit of a shock to the system, but especially so for the people and businesses providing services to those visitors. It is not only the 'inbound' market that has been affected, of course - the number of Japanese people visiting this season has also gone down. So, it has been a somewhat subdued season with covid-19 looming over it. Most businesses have had a difficult season and are just left wondering if/how/when things will change in time for next winter. Of course, right now, no-one knows. I suppose as individuals there's not much we can do - apart from doing our bit, hoping that vaccines work well, and that the situation will be brighter in 4-6 months’ time. I choose to be positive. That’s one of the things we can do, right? 😊 I’ll be back in the autumn of 2021 in the run up to the 2021-2022 season to report on next winter. In the meantime, thanks for reading the reports. Take care, stay safe and have fun. Hopefully more people will be able to Let's Madarao next season. See you later in the year. Bye! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 420cm Posted on Saturday 27th March 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Ah, the weekend. You know what. I was over at the Happo-one gondola yesterday around lunchtime. And it was snowing. Yey! There was even a thin layer on those lower areas for a short while, and I saw enough to feel justified in adding 1cm to the report to represent that snow; even though it was raining just a little further down in the village. I see Tsugaike Kogen are reporting 10cm of snow too. The only other number I can find coming from Happo-one (3cm at Usagidaira). Things had cleared up by the end of the day and we even got some sunshine. This morning it's cloudy/overcast but bright. There's a hint of light blue behind the clouds in places. If forecasts are correct it will be a sunny day so maybe these clouds will move on. It's going to be warm (think, mid teen temps). Tomorrow should be less warm but with a chance of rain and maybe also wind. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 0cm - Usagidaira: 3cm - Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 240cm - Usagidaira: 197cm - Nakiyama: 60cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 0cm - Base: 0cm Official snow depth: - Top: 220cm - Base: 70cm Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: 0cm - Iimori: 0cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 225cm - Iimori: 60cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: - Summit: 0cm - Base: 0cm Official snow depth: - Top: 204cm - Base: 80cm Tsugaike Kogen Reported snowfall: - Summit: 10cm Official snow depth: - Top: 227cm - Base: 20cm Hakuba Iwatake Reported snowfall: - Mountain Side: 0cm Official snow depth: - Top: 130cm - Base: 0cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: - 145cm Sanosaka Official snow depth: - Top: 80cm - Base: 30cm Hakuba Now 2020-2021 season Data as of Saturday 27th March 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 420cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 46 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 32cm (17th December) November 2020 snowfall 0cm December 2020 snowfall 150cm reported on 12 days January 2021 snowfall 165cm reported on 19 days February 2021 snowfall 102cm reported on 13 days March 2021 snowfall 3cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba.
