  • Nozawa Now: Sunday 30th January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 660cm Posted on Sunday 30th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The numbers I have from the ski area this morning are from yesterday afternoon (sorry I was not able to check later in the day yesterday) though I don't think a 24 hour total will be significantly higher than that. I think it was snowing harder a little to the north this time. Still, a good 20cm or so, and it is snowing still this morning. Once again there's already a light thin layer of snow on Naski's head. Looks like we are going into a week of mixed weather with snow never too far away, so all being well we will have regular top-ups and perhaps a reset or two. Mid winter through February please! Lifts rested today: Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Karasawa pair Fresh snowfall recorded by the ski area (total since yesterday afternoon): - Yamabiko (1615m): 15cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 20cm - Hikage (660m): 15cm - Nagasaka (616m): 15cm - Karasawa (563m): 15cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): - Yamabiko (1615m): 340cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 295cm - Hikage (660m): 290cm - Nagasaka (616m): 280cm - Karasawa (563m): 180cm All courses apart from the following plan to be open: - Yunomine A - Grand Prix - Kamoshika Planned operating lifts (this is general info - for any specifics see top report): - Subject to weather conditions all lifts that plan to be open should be ok. See above main report for specific info for this morning. - The top Yamabiko A-D courses close at 3:20pm until 27th March (at 3:10pm after that). - Skyline course closes at 4:10pm. - The Nagasaka quad lift is planned to open for night skiing 11th-12th Feb (subject to change). The ski area this morning reports a whopping 100cm on the mountain and there has been 82cm down at base. It basically hasn't stopped and there hasn't been much of a wind, so it has just been relentlessly piling up. Nice. Visibility this morning is limited not because of blizzard conditions but because of the snow coming down. Truly deep snow this morning. Exciting, but super care needs to be taken. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Some fresh snow this morning. 4cm for the report. Let me note that Hakuba 47 are reporting 2-3cm at base. (For those of you who get worked up about 'the numbers', I am unable to report more than is observed by my eyes and measured by my ruler. That would be intentionally misleading. Sorry, don't do that.) OK, now I've got that out of my way, let me refresh my mind and put a smile back on my face... :) Cortina is this morning reporting 5-15cm over the last 24 hours and Tsugaike 10cm on upper areas. Light snow falling just now and it's a cold start to the day. A it like yesterday really. It should be a fine morning to be out there. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The snow has just stopped, and we have a little sun now streaming through the clouds. More snow than I expected, actually. It had pretty much slowed down last evening, with an occasion furious flurry, but a good amount of snow did come down overnight. Not as many people out there as there should be to enjoy it! There was a gentle stream of cars heading up the hill earlier in the morning, but no maxed-out parking lots, it seems. Maybe with the sun out more people will be coming up during the day. Looks like lots more snow over the next few days, though, starting from this evening.
