- Hakuba Now: Sunday 20th February 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 527cm Posted on Sunday 20th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Fresh snow overnight! The most new snow is being reported by Hakuba Goryu who are boasting 30cm of it on their upper sloes. Sounds good, that. Other ski areas are reporting around 10-15cm at base and 20cm in higher areas. So there's a good new layer of snow to enjoy out there this morning. It hasn't been particularly cold, actually on the milder side, and so the snow outside my place isn't the lightest and driest... but that's not a complaint. Oh no, all snow is of course most welcome (though we do have our preferences). Right now it's snowing higher up, with light snow or no snow falling around base areas. And actually just as I am about to post the report, there's even a bit of sun trying to break through the clouds. Snow should be the winner today though, with heavy snow due tonight and perhaps even for a few more days, along with colder conditions as well. So the forecast looks promising. All of the ski areas apart Iwatake are now reporting official snow depths of around 4 metres, with three of them going over that number, which is great to see too. ----- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far [*upper areas] [As reported by official sources at time of this report] Hakuba Goryu: 830cm Hakuba 47: 780cm Hakuba Happo-one: 726cm Hakuba Cortina: 935cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 749cm ----- Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall this morning: - Upper: 30cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 400cm - Toomi: 185cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall this morning: - Summit: 20cm - Lower: 20cm Official snow depth: - Top: 400cm - Base: 200cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall this morning: - Kurobishi: 10cm - Riesen: 10cm - Usagidaira: 20cm - Nakiyama: 10cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 410cm - Usagidaira: 276cm - Nakiyama: 150cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall this morning: - Mountain Side: 10cm - Village Side: 10cm Official snow depth: - Mountain Side: 240cm - Village Side: 100cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Reported snowfall this morning: - Upper: 11cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 382cm - Lower: 148cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: - 385cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall (12 hours): - Summit: 20cm - Lower: 15cm Official snow depth: - Top: 390cm - Base: 260cm Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as Sunday 20th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 527cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 50 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th January) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days December 2021 snowfall 130cm reported on 12 days January 2022 snowfall 228cm reported on 20 days February 2022 snowfall 140cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . I think we can officially state that the big snow, for which a heavy snow warning was announced, did not occur. Our official 24 hour total is four (4) centimeters of snow. Not worth shoveling. Like yesterday, though, we have some pretty interesting snow crystals this morning. Yesterday it was big clumps of graupel, or soft hail; today we have little ice needles, about 1mm in length. Just for your snow interest.... It is the weekend, so all the main lifts are running. It's sunny (although with a thin cloud level way up there), the wind is strong at times from the southwest, but not so much to affect lifts (not yet, anyway; one never knows as the winds shift over the ocean, and we get ready for the next potential snow cycle over the next two days).
