- Niseko Now: Wednesday 2nd March 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 1060cm Posted on Wednesday 2nd March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here A bit of new snow to report this morning, but not a whole lot. There is a lot of cloud around this morning but some blue sky too. See images below to get a good idea of the situation. As of 8:30am the top lifts at Hirafu, Village Annupuri are not opening as planned due to windy conditions up there. Currently forecasts show some potentially decent snow falling over the weekend. I really can't think of much else to say this morning, so, see you tomorrow. ----- Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base: -4℃, 10cm of light snowfall, calm. Moiwa 800m: -5.0℃, WNW8.0m/s, 10cm snowfall, snowdrift development. Annupuri 1150m: -8.1℃, WNW6.4m/s, 16m/s gusty wind, 10cm snowfall, snowdrift development. Hirafu 1000m: -7.8℃, NNW7.8m/s. Hirafu 1250m: -9℃, SE15m/s, snowdrift development with wind blown snow. Coastal data- Benkei cape: NNW14m/s, Kamui cape: NW10m/s, 1007hPa, 0.7m waves. Weak wintery pressure distribution after the passing of a low pressure system. Light snowdrift development overnight with 10cm snowfall from the base to 1000m elevation. Be careful, shallow surface avalanches are likely to occur on knoll, on course edges, and slopes next to the top chairlifts. This morning, there was an avalanche at 1150m elevation at Annupuri while grooming. From observation, snow drifts development is small, however due to the low pressure snowfall, the crystals are not bounded well to the snow below them and can easily fracture. All gates are expected to be open. Please seek advice from the patrols before going out of bounds. As the atmospheric pressure gradient tightens snowdrifts will develop. It is better to stay away from Kohzan no sawa, Annupuri Osawa, and Higashione cornice slopes today. The mountain is partially reset and tree runs are good today. Low light is making it hard to see the snow surface. Be careful of crashing and falling down. This information is published to help minimize accidents in out bounds area. Respect Niseko Rules. Is your beacon switched on? ----- Planned ski area operations: Wednesday 2nd March 2022 The below snow depth and snowfall data is manually checked each morning from official sources. - Zao Now: Wednesday 2nd March 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 586cm Posted on Wednesday 2nd March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . There was sufficient snow last night to cover the grooming tracks almost everywhere so lots of soft stuff around. There is fog at the summit with bursts of medium wind. Viz though is about 5m so enough to see by. Going down, Paradise has the best powder but viz drops to 3m or less at the top. Utopia is in the thick of it as well as the upper part of Kurohime where there is a crunch under the powder all the way down. The Chuo bowl main run has the next best powder, the rest are patchy. Disappointment of the day are the Sunrise slopes which are strewn with leg rattling nodules. Give it a miss. Omori is likely to be just groomers as it is much lower down and snowfall less last night. It should get brighter as the day progresses and the sun is already trying to get out here and there so the fog may go. Basically a good day to be out. Official snow depth Summit: 180cm Paradise: 260cm Chuo: 260cm Utopia: 300cm Uwanodai: 180cm All areas and lifts should be opening as scheduled, subject to weather. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 1612cm Posted on Wednesday 2nd March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Rain overnight (at least that's what it sounded like, dripping from roof to roof). Tiny ice crystals falling now, not exactly the most exciting surface to ski on. I'd say in, but there's only been about 1cm of accumulation so far. It's a gloomy day out there, too, with a pretty thick fog covering the hill. Sometimes in these conditions it's actually sunny above the ski area, with unkai, a sea of clouds down below. Can't tell from here, of course, and I just wanted to add something more positive than gray and gloom. Not that we're gloomy, of course, living in a place like this! Snow! Skiing! The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning on the last day of February. The day is starting off with peaks shining against a bright overcast sky with blue patches of sun. However, as yesterday demonstrated, the weather on the mountain can change quickly and we had a lot of wind bursts, low visibility but also a bonus amount of decent powder quickly smoothing out tracks. It is therefore likely that an overcast sky will rule the day, light snow coming and winds about. Fog is also likely to come down. So, get out quickly but be prepared for a complete change from the current serenity. Sporadic wind is already about.
