Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 530cm Posted on Wednesday 8th May 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It was a long lead into winter with unusually warm temperatures pushing into December, but despite this Furano Ski Area was able to open up around the same time as usual on 24 November, and close as planned earlier this week on 6 May, at the end of Golden Week. Powder and consistency of season are the hallmarks of skiing in Hokkaido. At +15c on that closing day it was true spring skiing in t-shirt weather, and it was a great feeling to feel that warm spring air against the body whilst putting in some final turns. Furano delivered consistent quality snow conditions through the season. As the skis can now be hung up until later in the year it is time to enjoy the outdoors without the skis until next season rolls around. Tune in again at the end of October when Furano Now will start reporting again in the lead up to the 2019/2020 winter season. Have a great summer!
