The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Yesterday was a mild day. It felt a bit like March; more March than January anyway. Feels colder this morning, and it's snowing again. Quite heavily in places, meaning visibility is limited. As of 8am Kumanoyu were not reporting any new cm, but there has might have been some pver there since then. Yakebitaiyama reporting 3cm of snowfall as of 7:30am. This snow isn't expected to continue for long (even though it looks set in for the moment) and there might even be clear skies tomorrow morning. And then some more snow. Feels like we are in a period of bumpy variable weather, hopefully with a proper good old snow storm coming in early February. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning. Shiga Kogen is a wide area, of course, so you can get quite different weather happening at the same time in different areas. A good example, early this morning it's snowing over at Okushiga Kogen and a lot of cloud around. In other areas, it's blue skies and sunshine. It feels like the clearer weather will win out for today, though. It's a cold start to the day everywhere and there just a light north westerly wind. Tomorrow the forecast is for cloud, then back to sun on Monday. Hopefully a calm week that will let people enjoy the great snow we have this time round. All of the areas will be opening as planned this morning. There's not much yet (as of 7am Kumanoyu were saying 0cm) with some heavy snow potentially tonight and into tomorrow. It's a really cold morning and hardly any wind, the snow should be in fine condition. Kumanoyu report 20cm of fresh since yesterday morning and I'm guessing there's going to be about that out there on the runs to enjoy this morning. I was over at Okushiga yesterday. Snow was great. I know the quiet spots, but it sure was extra quiet. Kunamoyu and Yakebitaiyama are both reporting 30cm of new snowfall this morning, but I think they are being modest. Numbers aside, after a relatively mild day yesterday it's a cold morning today and the quality of the snow is excellent. There's a wind so the snow is really getting blown around (further making measurement troublesome as it's varying in different places). Some ski lifts might be delayed this morning due to the current weather conditions. Tomorrow we'll enjoy a break from the snow storms and perhaps some post storm sunshine. And then some more snow on Thursday. Kumanoyu are not reporting any snowfall from this morning but that is probably because their report was at 7am. It is falling more now. Wonder if it will continue. We're being told it will, especially overnight tonight. Potential heavy snow. Sounds good that. For the moment, generally limited visibility and relatively mild conditions with a north westerly wind. All lifts should be opening as scheduled. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Phew, I am able to get to the computer at last. It has been pretty crazy since yesterday. It's cold, it's snowy, it's windy and visibility is very limited. Kumanoyu are this morning reporting 100cm of fresh snowfall over 24 hours. (100cm!!) Yakebitaiyama are reporting 50-70cm overnight. This is the biggest snow haul of the season so far, and it's still coming down. The wind has been blowing it all about and so it's one of those days when it's difficult to put a number on it. I usually look at three spots and I think 70cm is probably representative, but like Kumanoyu are reporting there's more than that in places. The weather should be much calmer tomorrow and we might get some sunshine. Weather might be calmer, but snow conditions are going to be wild. It's snowing, visibility is limited in places and close to zero in others, and it feels quite windy. Kumanoyu is reporting 20cm of snowfall and I have just measured 22cm. There is perhaps a lot more on the way over the next few days, probably peaking tomorrow.
