Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 11cm
Snowfall at base this season 283cm

Posted on Thursday 26th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

The snow has eased off and the wind has calmed down. It is still very cold and keeping the snow in top conditions.

Kumanoyu this morning are reporting 10cm of fresh snow and Yakebitaiyama are reporting 15cm (after reporting 60cm yesterday). There might well be more than that in places again due to the wind yesterday.

We have mixed conditions across the region this morning. It is still snowing lightly in places (Okushiga, for example), and in others it is quite bright and even sunny. We do expect a bit more snow today and then perhaps a lot more come tomorrow night. If that happens, there should be a good fresh layer ready for people coming for the weekend.

Please note that the official snow depth numbers below are the official snow depth numbers, as published by ski areas themselves. I check official websites each morning and update the information on this page.

In other areas of the site (for example the ski area listing pages), the information is automatically updated once a day - but it is still originating from ski areas.

New snowfall does not always mean that the snow depth numbers will change, for a number of reasons. Those reasons include where the numbers are recorded (groomed compacted areas, for example), disappearing/melting snow, or simply ski areas failing to update information regularly, etc. Some ski areas go for days on end without updating their snow depth numbers... even when there has been fresh snow.

The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report.
