Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 32cm
Snowfall at base this season 272cm

Posted on Wednesday 25th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

It's a bit wild at the moment. And very cold with it.

Lots of snow, lots of snow being blown about by the wind, very cold and limited visibility. I have just measured in a few places and got different readings ranging from 20cm to almost 50cm. Unfortunately none of the ski areas are putting out a number this morning, so I can't report on that. It's one of those days where it is difficult (and not uniformly representative) to say just one number.

Fine quality snow, for sure. Once things calm down it's going to be excellent out there.

The weather is halting a number of lifts and the situation might be changing by the moment. If you are determined to head out in this weather, check before putting on your gear.

Shibutoge is reporting a temperature of -25C this morning!
