Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 339cm Posted on Wednesday 18th March 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. I have to be really early this morning but it's a fairly simple picture... clear blue skies again this morning with just a bit of thin cloud in places (and a bit more away from the mountains). Nice and cold early morning but will end up being a mild day. Tonight we will probably get rain down here but there seems to be a good chance of snow in the mountains. Sounds good. I will let you know. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Official snow depth: Top: 245cm Top: 60cm Current status and planned closing date: All open as normal except the Cosmo quad lift (Iimori) Planned closing date: Wednesday 6th May ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Official snow depth: Top: 245cm Base: 95cm Current status: All open as normal Planned closing date: Wednesday 6th May ------------ Hakuba Cortina New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 0cm Official snow depth: Top: 190cm Base: 105cm Current status and planned closing date: Cortina Number 1 pair, Number 2 quad, Number 4 pair, Number 6 pair lifts operating (4 of 6) 7 of 16 courses open Planned closing date is Monday 30th March ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobishi (1680m): 215cm Usagidaira (1400m): 111cm Nakiyama (800m): 25cm (sort of!) We expect some rain going into tomorrow, with fingers all crossed hoping that it might be white stuff up at higher elevations. The skies should be clearer by the weekend again. - Niseko Now: Tuesday 17th March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 866cm Greetings from Niseko. The sun is shining through my window now. There's a fair amount of cloud around but also blue sky and sunny sunshine. Just under 1C as of 10:30am. Oh yes and several cm of snow early morning. There might be some more at the end of the week. It's not over yet, as they say. Sorry if you took from my message yesterday that I was somehow stopping my reports. Not to worry... I will, of course, be with you until the end of the season. You can delight in me trying to find something to write about every morning for quite a while longer! Remember, you have paid up for the whole season and so are obliged to read right through until the end! After some fresh air I'm feeling more genki this morning. :) ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain base: -2°C, light wind, 3cm snowfall. Moiwa 800m: -5.7°C, WNW 1.7m/s 3-10cm snowfall. Annupuri 1100m: -7.6°C, WNW 4.3m/s, 5cm snowfall. Niseko Village 800m: -6.3°C, NNW 2.4m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -7.1°C, N 8.0m/s, gusts of wind at times, 3cm snowfall. Hanazono 800m: -4.7°C, ENE 3.4m/s, 3cm snowfall. Sea of Japan Benkei Cape: S 5m/s. Kamui Cape: NW 4m/s, 1020hPa, wave height unknown. Cold air is moving in, bringing 3–10 cm of snowfall through the morning. Be cautious of shallow surface avalanches on open, steep slopes with significant elevation changes. Most gates are expected to open. Follow patrol’s instructions and seek guidance before going out of bounds; areas outside the designated ski runs are not part of the resort. Moaiwa No. 6 gate will be closed due to the risk of full-depth avalanches in the Moaiwa Bowl, the lower part of Back Bowl, and slopes below 800 meters in elevation. Do not duck the ropes to go off-pieste. The Niseko Rules were established to prevent accidents outside the ski resort’s designated courses, based on past experiences of frequent accidents. Users must be aware that these rules exist and that they have an obligation to follow them. The ski resort is also responsible for rope monitoring and gate management. Areas outside the ski resort are national or prefectural forests, and landowners such as the national and prefectural governments are not liable for accidents occurring outside the resort. Since out of bounds skiing is permitted, the ski resort bears significant responsibility. Cracks are hidden beneath fresh snow. Cracks are not visible from above. Caution. As temperatures rise before noon, snow below 700 meters in elevation becomes unstable. Be careful of falls and collisions. Do not casually take beginners off-piste. While a beacon is not mandatory, carrying one is recommended. Do not forget your probe, rope, shovel, and short rope. ------------------------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 5cm Base: 5cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 295cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Base: 175cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Gondola until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 5cm Base: 5cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 360cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Base: 95cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Ace Gondola, Ace Family quad, King Gondola and King Holiday pair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 255cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 153cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Upper Village Gondola, Village Express and Banzai Chair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 270cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 130cm (-10cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Jumbo Number 1 quad until 7:30pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Niseko Moiwa has a planned closing date of Sunday 5th April. - Niseko Now: Monday 16th March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 863cm It's an overcast kind of morning with some patches of blue sky to see in limited directions. Not very contrast-y. Forecasts seem to be telling us to expect more sun over the coming days and perhaps some mild-feeling conditions. All lifts open as normal. I don't know if it's the general news or something else, but I'm not feeling very talkative or easily finding words at the moment. Even with my avoidance of social media and news as much as possible, I can't avoid the insanity and stupid that seems to be going on. It might be somewhat amusing if it was a rubbish 80's movie. (And we'd probably even deem that as far-fetched and silly). But here we are, in the real world. Perhaps I should not elaborate on my thoughts further than that. I just wanted to mention a self-aware acknowledgement of my less-than-normal genki-ness. I need to get out in the fresh air I think! ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain base: -1°C, no snowfall, frozen. Moiwa 800m: -3.6°C, WNW 4.6m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -6.6°C, W 3.5m/s. Niseko Village 1000m: -5.4°C, WNW 1.4m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -6.0°C, N 2.0m/s. Hanazono 800m: -2.7°C, NNE 3.4m/s. Sea of Japan Benkei Cape: NNW 8m/s. Kamui Cape: W 6m/s, 1019hPa, wave height unknown. The pressure gradient is loose, and both sea and mountain are calm with cold air flowing in. Major gates will open. Understand the risks before heading out-of-bounds; the area outside is not a ski resort. We are seeing a resurgence of people crossing ropes who either do not know or disregard the Niseko Rules. Do not enter strictly prohibited areas. Do not duck the ropes along the courses. Currently, the risk of full-depth glide avalanches is high in all south-facing valleys. To avoid accidents, refrain from skiing in the gully bottoms. Use particular caution below 800m, where rising temperatures are accelerating snowmelt. In the past, a young man skiing in the prohibited Yunosawa area after 4:00 PM was buried by an avalanche from the sidewall; he was not found until June. Nature is unforgiving of mistakes, regardless of race, nationality, or experience. Act wisely. This sport is fun, but it can sometimes take a life. ------------------------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 290cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 170cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Gondola until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 355cm (-10cm change since yesterday) Base: 90cm (-10cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Ace Gondola, Ace Family quad, King Gondola and King Holiday pair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 255cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 153cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Upper Village Gondola, Village Express and Banzai Chair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 270cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 140cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Jumbo Number 1 quad until 7:30pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Niseko Moiwa has a planned closing date of Sunday 5th April. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . I almost forgot to get my report out this morning; it’s pleasantly cool with some blue skies and sun, trees up the mountain a bit white (whether it’s snow or ice, it’s hard to tell). Just a nice day to get out, and I was almost out the door before I remembered that I need to get in touch with our readers with some fresh info. Which, again, is not so fresh: almost all the resort have new dates on their reports, but completely unchanged information, except maybe the temperatures.... Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 339cm Posted on Sunday 15th March 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. There's lots of cloud around this morning, with there is also some blue sky. It looks like there has been a few cm of snow in higher areas, though no ski areas are actually reporting any. Actually lower areas have also had a dusting of snow/sleet. That has been quickly disappearing, but there was almost 1cm on the top of my car a few hours ago. Today is the last day of the season for Sanosaka (or White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka full name). - Niseko Now: Sunday 15th March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 863cm This morning there's a fair amount of blue sky around and while there is also cloud early on (especially in higher areas) it feels like one of those days when it might clear up. It might not, of course, but forecasts generally seem to be predicting some nice weather today. And maybe the same kind of thing tomorrow, too. Wind probably won't bother us today, too, so it should be a fine morning to be out on the mountain. No new snowfall to report. ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base 6am: 0℃, no snowfall. Moiwa 800m: -4.3℃, N4.1m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -6.5℃, WNW4.3m/s. Village 1000m: -5.3℃, N wind speed n/a. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -6.5℃, N6.8m/s. Hanazono 800m: -4.2℃, N0.7m/s. Coastal data: Benkei Cape NNW4m/s, Kamui Cape WSW2m/s, 1021hPa, wave n/a. Light winds at sea and on the mountains, no snowfall and the weather is good. There is no risk of fresh snow surface avalanches, but the risk of full-depth avalanches is increased in the following locations: Kozan no Sawa (Back Bowl), Osawa cornice face (1100m), Moiwa Bowl(700m), Mikaeri side wall (700m) and the SW slope of West Ridge (900m) on the Goshiki side. To avoid accidents, do not go into the bottom of valleys and gullies, do not get onto or under slopes with cracks. Slopes with horizontal wrinkles below cracks are not immediately dangerous, but slopes without wrinkles or with vertical cracks are prone to collapse, be careful. Also be careful around cornices, they can collapse and the chunks can be as big and heavy as a tour bus. Peak gates are expected to be open. Please listen to the patrol’s instructions. The areas outside the gates are not part of the ski resort. Think about your own safety before leaving the gates, it’s easy to get lost out there. Carry safety equipment and emergency food. Nature is not so kind. - Nozawa Now: Saturday 14th March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 733cm Posted on Saturday 14th March 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I have just come back from my morning walk. There's a light covering of snow on my car this morning, just about enough to add another 1cm today. Roads are clear. I'm too early for any report from the ski area itself, but perhaps they might have received several cm up top? (Just a guess). So we have quite a lot of blue sky up there this morning and a fair share of cloud, too. Forecasts still show a mix of largely cloudy skies (and the chance of light precipitation at times) both today and tomorrow. After this recent period of colder temps we should get some warmer conditions in the coming week. ---------------------------- Fresh snowfall since yesterday afternoon (reported by the ski area): Yamabiko: 0cm Uenotaira: 0cm Hikage: 0cm Nagasaka: 0cm Karasawa: 0cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): Yamabiko: 205cm Uenotaira: 190cm Hikage: 70cm Nagasaka: 60cm Karasawa: 40cm Scheduled lift operations: All operating as normal Courses currently closed: Kurokura Hachiman Grand Prix Planned closing date: Wednesday 6th May Information on the ski area: Nozawa Onsen Nozawa Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Saturday 14th March 2026 Total snowfall at base 733cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 15cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 134cm reported on 11 days January 2026 snowfall 438cm reported on 22 days February 2026 snowfall 126cm reported on 12 days March 2026 snowfall 20cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. - Niseko Now: Saturday 14th March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 863cm Good morning from Niseko on this Saturday morning. I have added the 'planned closing dates' information to the list below. They are all, of course, subject to change. Nature will dictate. It feels quite mild this morning and temps are around 0-1C with ski areas reporting -4 at peak. There is a lot of cloud and it is still windy; I have to post this report before opening times but it looks like at least top lifts will be affected again this morning. I have another dusting of snow to report and adding 1cm today. (I'm all out of my 'in hand' mm for rounding up now). I didn't notice that Asahigaoka ski area had closed on 8th, so sorry about that oversight. No more cheap skiing in the Niseko region! ;) On that note, it was when I was updating the list below that I noticed that a one day ticket at Niseko Moiwa in peak season was 13,000 yen. Thankfully, they are now selling at 'spring season' prices and a ticket is 'only' 8,400 yen. (Walk up ticket window prices, a bit cheaper if you buy online). I haven't been over there this season actually, so I hadn't really thought about that. Yikes. ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base 6am: -1℃, light wind, trace new snow. Moiwa 800m: -3.2℃, ENE4.4m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -5.1℃, NNE6.5m/s. Village 1000m: -4.0℃, NNE10.9m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -4.6℃, N9.9m/s, 5cm new snow. Hanazono 800m: -2.8℃, N3.6m/s. Coastal data: Benkei Cape NE8m/s, Kamui Cape ENE4m/s, 1025hPa, wave n/a. Strong northeasterly winds blowing from the low-pressure system over the Kuril Islands are causing shallow snowdrifts development above 1000m. Shallow surface avalanches due to crust failure are possible on open, steep slopes like Back Bowl. If caught in these avalanches, sometimes called “magic carpets,” you are carried at high speed to the valley floor and buried in hard debris. The risk of full-depth avalanches is increasing around the mountain. Particular caution is advised on the slopes by run outs between ski resorts below 800m, eg: Mikaeri and Moiwa Bowl, and Hirafu Super Course, where entry is restricted. Full-depth avalanches can be predicted from cracks, but avalanches can occur instantaneously when cracks appear. The main peak gates will be closed to prevent accidents. Please listen to the patrol’s advice. There are many dangers during this transition to spring. When entering the mountains, walk with sufficient distance between your party, do not rest in valley bottoms or at the bottom of possible avalanche slopes. Be careful not to fall into swollen streams, rescue is difficult if you are swept away under a snow bridge. It is recommended to carry a short 8mm x 15m rope along with your beacon. Never enter the restricted areas of Harunotaki, Yunosawa, Moiwa Anbetsu, or the closed Mizunosawa area. Respect the rules. Guides and tour leaders have a great responsibility for safety. ------------------------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 2cm Base: 2cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 295cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Base: 180cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Gondola until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 365cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 100cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Ace Gondola, Ace Family quad, King Gondola and King Holiday pair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 255cm (-15cm change since yesterday) Base: 153cm (+1cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Upper Village Gondola, Village Express and Banzai Chair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 270cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 140cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Jumbo Number 1 quad until 7:30pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Niseko Moiwa has a planned closing date of Sunday 5th April. Perhaps a bit more than that in top areas. We are expecting clear(ish) skies over the weekend (and beyond) and calm wind. Sounds like it should be a fine weekend. Just to let you know that I won't be able to post over the weekend and so the next report will appear on Monday.
