It's a beautiful morning here in Nozawa. Some cloud to be seen but not over our mountain; a bit of low cloud hanging around lower areas, but that will surely disappear quickly.

Something of a very nice surprise this morning with some very decent snowfall on the ground by base and the resort itself reporting between 20cm and 40cm of fresh snow.

After a break in the snow falling yesterday and some sunshine breaking through.

It is a cold morning again but it feels like we are now past the peak of that storm we have had.

We're still in the middle of this mid-winter storm with snowy, cold and somewhat windy conditions continuing.

By 3pm yesterday the resort was reporting 10-18cm of fresh snowfall across the mountain and this morning and extra 10-20cm.

It's really very cold this morning. Possibly and probably the coldest of the season.

Did you see that news about the eruption over in Kusatsu yesterday?! Yikes. Nozawa is unaffected - more on that situation below.

Did you see the images from the Kanto area last night with all that snow falling in Tokyo? It's amazing how just 5-10cm or so can cause so many problems.

After that clear start to the day yesterday, clouds did move in and...

Some more snow fell during the morning yesterday – by 12 noon the ski resort was reporting 1cm at Karasawa base, 6cm at Uenotaira and 13cm on the top Yamabiko area of the mountain.

And there's some very good news this morning with a lot of fresh snow to report.

I'm still a bit confused with what the weather is delivering at the moment.
