Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this seas 1241cm
Posted on Sunday 30th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
Perhaps a little surprising, but we have some blue sky and sun early this morning. All forecasts indicate cloud and precipitation later on, so it might not last long. And if we are lucky we might get a little more snow. But it might get windy too.
There was a bit more snow since the early report yesterday (2cm added today), but it didn't last long into the morning leaving us with a largely cloudy kind of day.
Your reporter was not there, but there was apparently a 'parade of groomers' on show before the night skiing at GALA Yuzawa opened last night. They were grooming the slope at the same time, of course. (I want to drive one of those one day). As I mentioned in a previous report, I do wonder if we might see more night skiing at that ski area in the future, if this one-off was deemed successful.
OK so here we are at the last day of the season for various ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma.
Today is the last day of operations for the following ski areas:
- Iwappara (Yuzawa)
- Maiko Snow Resort (Minamiuonuma)
- Muikamachi Hakkaisan (Minamiuonuma)
- Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort (Yuzawa)
Tomorrow will be the last day of operations for the following ski areas:
- Muica Snow Resort (Minamiuonuma)
- Yuzawa Park (Yuzawa)
The list below will be re-organised once they are closed.
The top Kagura Number 5 lift was originally scheduled to be open until today, but a while back the ski area announced that it was possibly going to be extended. Tried to find more details on the official site, but without success. Perhaps it is a secret.
Please note that the report tomorrow might only appear around lunchtime.
