Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 35cm
Snowfall at base this season 602cm

Posted on Sunday 10th March 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Full-on winter continues with another 30-40cm (and more) of fresh snow. There's a bit of wind about and varied amounts in different places, but it's going to be good numbers wherever you look. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't over 50cm in places.

Here's what ski areas are reporting.

Kumanoyu: 30cm (7am)

Yakebitaiyama: 25cm (3am... it has been snowing a lot since then).

Snow is still coming down at quite the rate though it will likely ease off as the day progresses.\

We will get a break from the snow tomorrow with a good chance of sunshine, but there's more snow incoming around late Tuesday/Wednesday.

(* Just ignore the official snow depths. Often they don't move even when there's a very large amount of fresh snow!)
