Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 25cm
Snowfall at base this season 306cm
Posted on Thursday 4th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
Yesterday the Nagasaka Gondola was able to get moving soon after 10:30am, meaning all of the lifts were in action.
This morning another 20-33cm of fresh snowfall is being reported by the resort (since yesterday morning) and I am measuring 25cm to go on the report. A good number indeed and while visibility is very limited especially on the upper parts of the mountain this morning, the snow should be worth it. A cold start to the day so wrap up well and enjoy.
We are expecting the snow to ease off by later this afternoon and tomorrow to be generally cloudy. (Sometimes those days end up being lovely and sunny - that'd be good if it happened).
Further snowfall is due to move into the region come Saturday with clearer weather again on Sunday. Oh yes, and more snow as we enter the new week.
Many people will be back to work now and so expect Nozawa to be quieter. Monday 8th January is a national holiday which means that the upcoming weekend is a 3 day one for many, so it will be another of the peak weekends of the winter season.
