Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 15cm
Snowfall at base this season 616cm

Posted on Friday 28th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

This morning I have fresh snow to report to you. 10-15cm on lower areas and the ski area reporting 22cm up top since yesterday (half of that during the day yesterday and half of it overnight). Naski only comes out to play around 8am every morning and there's already some snow on the top areas (head?), so for the moment it's snowing at a decent pace. Hopefully we'll get more today to give us a good reset for the weekend. Good to feel it fairly cold this morning too.

Weather for the weekend? Maybe some clearer weather to get us going tomorrow morning, with snow due later on (night time?) and into Sunday. Not much wind forecast.

Rested lifts today: Skyline connecting, Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Karasawa pair.

Fresh snowfall recorded by the ski area (total since yesterday afternoon):

- Yamabiko (1615m): 22cm

- Uenotaira (1407m): 16cm

- Hikage (660m): 10cm

- Nagasaka (616m): 15cm

- Karasawa (563m): 5cm

Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area):

- Yamabiko (1615m): 315cm

- Uenotaira (1407m): 270cm

- Hikage (660m): 250cm

- Nagasaka (616m): 245cm

- Karasawa (563m): 160cm

All courses apart from the following plan to be open:

- Yunomine A

- Grand Prix

Planned operating lifts:

- Subject to weather conditions all lifts that plan to be open should be ok. See above main report for specific info for this morning.

- The top Yamabiko A-D courses close at 3:20pm until 27th March (at 3:10pm after that).

- Skyline course closes at 4:10pm.

- The Nagasaka quad lift is planned to open for night skiing 11th-12th Feb (subject to change).
