Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 601cm

Posted on Thursday 27th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

It's snowing again this morning. Not much up until now but hopefully we'll get some during the day today and hopefully over the next few days. It doesn't seem we're on for any heavy snowfall though.

Early morning visibility is limited especially in higher areas.

Nagano Prefecture joins the 'quasi state of emergency' club from today. It's a somewhat confusing thing, but it boils down to certain businesses (restaurants, bars) being asked to shorten their business hours. Apparently this is done to help contain the spread of the covid. Naski doesn't know much about it and most definitely is not a scientist vegetable, so has no comment. Just hopes people will still come.

But it might dissuade some from visiting. Particularly, from what I have heard from friends with interest in businesses here in Nozawa, groups of people.

Rested lifts today: Hikage gondola, Skyline connecting, Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Karasawa pair; all courses apart from Yunomine A and Grand Prix open.

- Yamabiko (1615m): 2cm

- Uenotaira (1407m): 3cm
