Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 32cm
Snowfall at base this season 375cm

Posted on Tuesday 17th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Hello and good morning to you from Nozawa where snow is still falling!

And since yesterday morning the resort has reported another impressive 45cm of fresh snow on the top Yamabiko area with at least 25cm mountain-wide.

There just basically loads of snow everywhere at the moment and top quality stuff too. It's what we love to see.

But with so much snow over such a short period of time the dangers increase and extra care and caution is really needed at the moment. Sometimes it might be difficult to stop getting carried away with in all this powder. There's more than enough quality snow on the course areas of the resort. Right now it is highly recommended to stay on them.

There may be some sunshine tomorrow as this one storm eases off, but it looks like there's more heavy snow lined up for Friday night and into Saturday. That's what we want from now on, decent regular snowfall.

It is very sad to hear yesterday about an Australian family missing at the resort. We very much hope to hear good news on that today as searches continue.
