Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 905cm

Posted on Thursday 7th March 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

We're still getting snowfall here in the first full week of March in Myoko (just like the way that sounds). Could even get blustery on Saturday, just in time for the little ceremony of Yama no Kami on Saturday at the little shrine just to the right of the Hotel No. 2 lift at Akakura Kanko. It's been fairly spring like the last few years, so this unusual season just keeps on surprising.

It looked like the sun was thinking about coming out to the east on a quick trip down to the main road this morning, but low clouds were also drifting across and obscuring the low mountains on the east side of town. Not so bad here at base, but Mt. Myoko has disappeared somewhere up the hill there....

Colder overnight, and more ice chunks on stuff.
