Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 900cm

Posted on Wednesday 6th March 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

It snowed a little bit overnight, but it was in fact a little bit that made a lot of noise. I got the sound of snow slowly sliding off the roof around 4am, but in fact it wasn't much snow, but rather heavy, icy crystals that made a crunchy layer. Sounds big, delivers little (in the way of fresh new snow). Nice icy layer on the snow surface, ice on the car....

As a wise woman telemark skier once said, "Ice is for cocktails." It is something we don't get that often in Myoko (the ice, not the drinks), although it sure has been around this year.

Hoping for more fluffy stuff later in the week.
