Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 407cm
Posted on Sunday 31st January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.
A pretty foggy start to the day, after a cold, clear night last night.
Fortunately the fog has been rising up the hill, so I can see the top of the lifts from base level (skiing in the trees in fog can be very nice, but whiteout on a big white ski slope is not that entrancing). It's pretty warm, too, hovering right around 0°C at the moment. But light snow keeps on falling - really light at the moment - but the forecast has continuous snow showers or light snow, so it might not be a lot, but it's good.
Having written that the fog is moving up, it now has decided to come back down and visit.... but bringing a little more snow with it. I have a feeling the air is kind of pulsing like a wave out there. And now the sun is trying to peek out.
Well, it's a mixed day in Myoko! Lots of people heading up to the ski areas, though, so a good day as well.
