Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 37cm
Snowfall at base this season 890cm

Posted on Saturday 30th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

A return to snow after a dry spell.

But not as much snow as we expected; under 40cm of pretty heavy stuff.

Some wind, too, judging from a few drifts, but again not what the forescast predicted. The snow was lots of tiny crystals that might make for pretty slow skiing offpiste (and there is that old hard snow layer underneath that might make for trouble).

It's stayed pretty cold, too, and that might last for a while, so the snow condition will probably only get better.
