Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 7cm
Snowfall at base this season 1194cm

Posted on Saturday 2nd February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Sunny in Myoko, although the day started with a little bit of light snow.

Should be nice out there, but things are going to get weird from tomorrow afternoon, with the freezing level going way up to 2650 meters. Higher than Mt. Myoko.

Rain is on the forecast for late Sunday and into Monday, but it's going to be cold right after that.

The fast switch from rain to cold could cause an ice layer to form, something to keep in mind next week if you're heading into the backcountry.
