Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 606cm

Posted on Monday 27th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

After a good day of snowfall, and some pretty strong winds, things quieted down this morning for a beautiful, sunny day and just great snow.

Faithful readers will know I like it better when it's snowing, but today it's just perfect on the slopes: soft, sparkly snow, trees loaded with fresh white, a warm sun and a temperature staying in the minus. This could convince me that bluebird days are as good as many people say (of course, we will need more powder again soon....).

The official snow reports are still all over the place; I think Akakura Onsen is the closest to reality with 30cm (I've complained to the town about late/incomplete reports; the ski areas are submitting and putting on their own websites, but it's nice to have them in one place. And early in the morning, too).
