Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 1378cm

I said something was going to happen yesterday; unfortunately that meant some rain late in the day.

Fortunately, this turned to snow by morning, and is really picking up, along with the wind, at the present time.

We could use a good coating of powder; it's pretty icy out there today on the slopes (and in the trees as well!).

Again, keep an eye out if the wind really does get strong and deposits a lot of new snow on top of the hard base—things could get dicey off the ski areas.
